Diablo 2 was popular for its multiplayer aspects, not its single player. Yall need to learn that.

I played D2 almost exclusively solo. Usually offline, but every once in a while, a friend or my brother would want to run together, so I would battlenet it.

I treat PoE the same way. I play in trade leagues, but I only trade to buy something I can't find, or sell something (good) I will never use. I only run in groups if someone I know needs help with something, or one of my RL friends or relatives wants to get together.

That to me is all that is required of multiplayer in an arpg. I have no desire to fight other players, I have no epeen to worry about, and I freely admit that I am a worse player than you.

That is what is great about PoE. It doesn't matter that it takes me 2 months to get to Sirus A5... that is MY speed in MY game. I truly don't care how that relates to any other player. I never will.

If I wanted to play an MMO, I wouldn't be here. Even when I played WoW (for a month) I played solo. Nothing about grouping with randoms will ever appeal to me.
I am quite frequently not so miserable as it would be wise to be - T.H. White

As playtime approaches infinity, access to content approaches unity.

I think you all got trolled. For 6 pages

Nah. People have been saying this crap for almost 20 years. It's gotten similar reactions in the past. It's not trolling. It's utterly pointless and easy to dispute, but it's not trolling. People do this to justify their beliefs. They need to belittle others because they can't simply enjoy what they have if someone else doesn't enjoy it the same way they do.

Might want to read up on the Paradox of Intollerance. It's not wrong to be intollerant of intolerance.

Oh please, by whose standards?

I'm certain a call to a History colleague of yours could help you with plenty of examples of gatekeepers of "tolerance" in History, and how problematic that might be
Hell Academia not withstanding, who have their own warts to cover up.

Point is I'm not sure standing by the defense of "when in Rome" and shrugging when it comes to toxic commentary on the forums is much of an excuse to behave that way, or condem the behavior of others with whatever mental gymnastics you choose to employ.

Meh I suppose it doesn't matter, old dog and new tricks or something, and dont want to continue derailing the thread.

Thanks for the chuckle Shags, have a good day.

Diablo 2 was in the in-between space of solo and multiplayer, same as PoE. You play mostly solo but there's a huge drive to show off your loot and maybe do a few things together like crypt runs/Trist runs with your friends. GGG got this feeling completely right.

Not sure how much it applies to this thread, but that damn paradox is so over and MIS-used these days that I've little sympathy for anyone bringing it up anymore. It relies on a contradiction that itself relies on an extremely strong form of intolerance - literally death and/or complete silencing (and I mean that literally). But it's almost always used for cases where neither of those are true, just a mere difference of worldviews, rendering it an absurd argument. It's almost NEVER applicable.

Solo players on a forum, to begin with; is a oxymoron or ironic. #facepalm
20vs20 group pvp updates (for the main game, not royal). Siege vs siege maps. Randomized & shuffled passive trees. Bigger trees +30 point updates.

Large towns hosting 100+ people; bard taverns. A field near town for guild events. Not hideouts like WoW-Garrisons. Outside like Ragnarok Online.

Just because the concept uses an extreme example to illustrate it, doesn't make the use of it in less extreme/horrific cases less valid.
