Get rid of the xp loss
" If you lost at least twice as much exp on death, I think this would be a great idea. Maybe you lose all exp towards the next level and have to reach your body with no equipment to get 75-90% of it back? Could be fun. I don't get people complaining about the death penalty... it's called the death PENALTY. It's right there in the name: you aren't SUPPOSED to enjoy it when it happens to you, it's a fail state, like getting an F on a pop quiz. The proper response to you failing a test in school isn't, "I didn't enjoy receiving this bad grade." And the DP is honestly pretty lenient; I'd genuinely prefer a game where you lose 100% of the experience you've gained toward the next level. That's what gaining a level IS: your character stayed alive long enough to learn how to be better. That's literally the reason why you gain levels with "experience" in RPGs. If you find yourself unable to gain levels because you keep dying, the solution is not to remove the experience penalty, it's to improve your build until you stop dying. The death penalty is the game struggling to teach you a lesson that few players seem interested in learning. Allowing players to level up while being bad and not improving their builds, just by throwing endless bodies at content, defeats the entire purpose of having levels. At that point the game is so casualized that GGG might as well just do away with Exp as a whole and start everyone at 100 when they make a new build. |

" Or to stop trying to level up your character. For example, I stop leveling my characters once they reach level 94 or so. Admittedly, if I see the character getting to 80% or 90% then I'll usually decide to play safer and trying to make the next level. Those last few passive skill points don't make a big difference anyway. " I really don't believe that is the purpose. Any kind of death penalty would do that. The experience point death penalty is there to make character level 100 a chase goal. GGG loves that level 100 chase goal Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired! Last edited by Turtledove#4014 on Sep 8, 2021, 1:07:27 AM

In path of exile there's nothing to be proud of when someone reach lvl 100 for several reasons:
- You invest a shitload of currency to run meta exp endgame. - Spamming t16 maps blank or with the safests mods (another currency sink but much cheaper in general) but even so there might be maps where the game surprises you and you die regardless. - Teamplay that several people can easily fund the meta exp endgame and level together on the safest way after getting to a decent gearing state. The game isnt there to make things "scary" as someone said like a broken record in several interviews. It's to make you feel bad whenever you die and lose SEVERAL hours or days of exp whenever the game accomplishes in what is best for killing the players with unbalanced and overtunned mess. How do people feel proud of this every league and they punch their chests like alphas and still supporting such terrible system? Having 4-5 more skill points than the rest is sure going to make your life better, I guess? The solution is to not tell others to "stop" leveling and call it a day. That's making excuses for a lame system and it will never get reviewed as it should. Like the PoWeR CrEeP on monsters and map mods. Don't bother if you're going to tell me "people should just mentally think that they are going to stay on this level and don't care about it anymore" that is not how it works. These dev's want players to play their game for more than 2 weeks every 3 months? this would be an incentive.. not just reaching to 95 and your next gear upgrade is gated 50-150 ex's. Don't be a poe stan. Use your fucking brain.

I get so annoyed by doing well map after map and then suddenly die in map 20, because of a bad mob/mod combination and 1 shot. As they are always one-shots if i made a bad decision and i die because of that, fine my bad. But it's hey a mob, hey i am dead, not even getting a chance to react, just plan sucks
It get's to the point i wonder why the hell i play, i would be 50% into 95 in the last 4-5hours i played, if i didn't die a few times to one-shots. I die less to bosses.. a lot less then just some random one-shots.. I die less often to Sirius then i sometimes do in some random map, Conquerors are less risky then a random map. Why? because you can learn them. At a random map it's just a sudden 1-shot from nowhere, literately from nowhere, no effects no nothing. And yes of course i need another 3k life, and better gear.. edit: my cookies keep selecting earlier quotes :( Last edited by Shadeless01#5109 on Sep 8, 2021, 7:38:00 AM

" You need to balance your builds defenses and stop rolling map mods your build cant handle. Import your build to PoB, go to "Calc", scroll down and check "Maximum Hit Taken" for all dmg sources. You should be able to figure out where your builds fault is located and then fix it. Drop your small life cluster for instance and replace with a small life providing "Rote Reinforcement" for endu charges on block and maybe grab an endu while you are at it. Drop some of the inefficient dmg nodes, travel to marauder and grab more life. Right now you invested 23 points into your cluster setup and another another 12 points that arent travel nodes plus the anoint into minion stuff. Thats 35 points ignoring the anoint for dmg. Compare that to to 23 points you invested into life. You are simply way to greedy when it comes to dmg and relying on killing everything before it kills you. Thats not a bad approach when it works but it doesnt work all the time and thats when you get rekt. Push at least 180-200% life because you dont have much going for you when it comes to mitigation and sustain. A huge lifepool isnt the best solution but its a start. Honestly Id also drop Glancing Blow in a Hearbeat and get Mystic Bullwark for about 50% atk/spell block. Thats way stronger than GB ever will be. tl;dr: Your builds defenses are paper thin and you can either do something about it or keep complaining. One of those will get you results, the other one wont. Cheers |

Heck, you guys talking like level 100 means anything in softcore. People just gonna do chayula rota or afk in 5-way all day. Only when those things are gone the xp punishment finally makes sense. Also get rid of the aurabots already.

" I agree, but i like to level myself, buying it by rotations is not my thing. |

" I will try some of the advice, thank you! The mods i always pay attention to, well mostly, sometimes i overlook a bad mod.. Problem is the damage v defense, you advice to that i should drop some damage, but right now my damage all-ready feels barely sufficient. I will try the glancing blows thing, see if it helps, and see if i can drop some of the damage, i need some awakening gems i guess to make up for it, which i have not gotten as a drop yet, i wonder if they actually exist :S Last edited by Shadeless01#5109 on Sep 8, 2021, 11:35:38 AM

I've got to level 100 a couple of times, and IMHO the XP penalty should not be removed. Getting to level 100 currently means something: not only is your build powerful enough to do relatively high-tier content to grind the XP, but it also needs a certain level of survivability too. Remove that survivability requirement and it becomes almost meaningless, and any glass-cannon trash could achieve it.

" Not only that - it would become the ideal way to achieve it. |
