Yeah, make SC even more corpse thrower than it already is, then proceed to balance the game around that, are people even thinking when making this same suggestion for the who knows which time?
there were "several" suggestions to make this "non penalizing" thing a seperate league
but nope ggg doesnt even consider reading their own forum
they rather read reddit bullshittery and balance things around streamers

Frankly, the more GGG avoids listening to the feedback here and on the internet's toilet, the better off the game will be.

the better? :D look at what happened to the game while they listened to reddit and streamers only ....
it became a clusterf*** which only 1% can enjoy and complete

I know a lot of people consider this GAME as a job, and if you accomplish something in this game you probably consider yourself good and a god and you might somehow think you matter in the world..
But it's still a game, some people here talk like it actually means something by being good at this game, wake up call, it means nothing in the real world..
I play games for fun, games normally = fun, not the meaningless grinding state in PoE Currently. Doing brainless content just to get to the next level in the safe way, or buy your levels or breachstones or whatever, i am sorry but that's just boring not an achievement or sign of skill (for the ones that PoE = equal life and only means of existence).
And yes maybe death penalty does add something to the game, for me it at least does not add fun, i already find it annoying to walk back to my death position.

If you don't find PoE fun, why are you inflicting it on yourself? Why are you posting on it's forums?
If a game, by a company called... "Grinding Gear Games" is un-enjoyable... why would you inflict misery on yourself? "Grinding" is LITERALLY in the corporation's name...
...truth in advertising folks.
If I use "Bright Smile, Fresh Breath" Brand Toothpaste... I expect to get those things...
...and if I play a game by "Grinding Gear Games," the logical expectation is that it will be very grindy and also time sink.
And that's not a bad thing. Plenty of free-to-play games out there to cater to the instant-effortless-dopamine-hit junkies with only a few minutes to play in between picking the kids up from football.

I have no problem with grinding itself, i said meaningless grinding. Dopamine hit? When do you get a dopamine hit? Mine only comes currently from the occasional exalt drop, from getting a level which after 90 gets slower and slower especially if you try out certain content(that's the point of my post)
Item drops? When i get a 4 exalt map i am looking at it, i should sell it, or run it, well i choose to run content i don't know, what else would be the point of the game. And if the bottle of faith would have dropped i am pretty sure i would only be there to say, ok nice, good for my unique tab as my current char not using it. Because when you do find something nice, you actually most likely need to sell it as 95% of the time it's useless for the character you play and Ur bound to go trade it.. which.. well that's another topic.

When you compare the number of valuable items to the number of equippable slots on any given character, something dropping that will not be specifically useful is almost a certainty.
Fortunately, we can trade the items for currency or directly what we want. I was able to swap a Starlight Chalice for a 323 ward pair of gloves just a couple of days ago.

lol, but seriously:
The exp penalty...lets be real here...ONLY affects players lvl 95-100. Leveling is so fast before that its hardly noticeable. So in essence the punishment is really to make the climb to level 100 a challenge. As others have said, without any type of penalty dying becomes meaningless. Since items have no durability, we can't really do a durability hit. Because there is no central currency we can't really do a currency penalty. This leaves very very few options left to deter death.
1) Have an exp penalty, but leave a corpse where players can recover SOME lost exp back if they chase down their corpse. This idea would ONLY work if it was harder to recover your corpse a la Diablo 2 where you lost all your equipped items. But, if this were to happen in PoE, you would never make it back to your corpse and just keep incurring the penalty over and over again.
2) Have a delayed penalty that punishes you in the future, rather in that immediate instance. From a psychological standpoint, this is FAR WORSE than people seem to think it would be. Sure, a death at lvl 99 makes you feel like quitting. IN THAT MOMENT. The vast majority of players that say they wanna quit because of the exp penalty end up coming back. If that punishment were delayed and affected your gameplay for multiple hours afterward, this would KILL your desire to continue progressing as nothing feels worse in an RPG than suddenly gaining less than what you were a minute ago. A one-off punishment is fleeting, a delayed punishment is torturous.
3) Lose items from your inventory/equip. This would be the absolute WORST decision. Look at Heists: exp loss may hit you hard, but losing EVERy ITEM YOU PICKED UP is like a shot in the face.
I can't really think of any other possible scenario in this type of game, with its gearing and currency structure. There HAS to be a death penalty, and I personally feel like an immediate exp loss is the best possible scenario for the MAJORITY of players. Again...realistically...this punishment is ONLY a problem for players 95-100 which is an incredibly small portion of the player base. You simply cannot please everyone.
1:
The D2 exp recovery approach would work.
You lose one portal to equip your backup gear to clear monsters around your corpse. Part of exp back for one extra portal and less temporary inventory space.
Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body."
Only usable with Ethanol Flasks

Wondering why not treat the map just like Heist but with more portals, if you die you drop all gained items, and leave a corpse where you regain 50 to 90% of the lost xp (rng just like GGG likes it)
