just quick advice for you
1. every hc player going to say to you play hc 2. every elitist is going to tell you to "git gud" also a quick reminder for all future complaints about the xp loss/death penalty Chris Wilson: there are penalties in the game "no one's complaining about them" means dear Chris does'nt read his "own forum" but only nice compliments on reddit "There are Penalties in the Game, no one's complaining about them"

" if someone gives me a lot of exalts I buy the git gud gear. People in hardcore use logout macro to avoid that death, that's really skillful and that really must be the point of the game, logging out to avoid a death The mob that shot me, trough a corridor and chain spammed skills, the skill would be quit the map? |

" you got the point exactly :) thats the reason no one likes it when someone is complaining about xp loss or oneshots "There are Penalties in the Game, no one's complaining about them"

It would be nice if they added a new league or something that didn't have the experience loss. Because at higher levels, 10% experience is a lot. Depending on how much play time you have, it could be a week's worth of playtime (maybe more). It also doesn't really increase the challenge very much either. It's more prevalent effect on the gameplay is it encourages players to create different characters to do dangerous content with, or to exit out the game quickly when they are about to die. Neither of these I would consider worthy improvements to the gameplay. Then there is the issue of lag where you can die and lose hours and hours of gameplay due to no fault of your own. Then it really becomes infuriating.
So a new league would be nice. They could even call it the Pussy League so all the elite players who are better than us can bask in their superiority. I wouldn't care. But being able to play this game without the constant specter of losing your experience looming over you would be a welcomed addition IMHO. Last edited by Berylstone#2209 on Aug 31, 2021, 7:03:01 PM

This topic...
If you remove the ''only'' danger of playing softcore (xp loss), it diminishes the experience and feeling of fear. People already do not care about dying, imo the xp/death penalty should be much bigger. :) Affliction and Necropolis worst leagues ever. The current game design has slowly turned this game into a loot-shower fest, chase uniques are way too available; and obtaining chase items through stacked decks and valdo's boxes simply isn't fun.

" I guess what I would say to this is some of us simply play games to relax and have fun. We don't play games to have a sense of "danger" and "fear". Putting that aside, I don't really get an exhilarating thrill of danger when I lose hours of work anyway. It's just annoying to me, especially when it's over something stupid. Besides, if you enjoy the experience loss so much you could always simply stay in the current leagues that have it. Why not allow players who don't like it a league to play in? Where I come from that's called a win/win and the game population would improve as a result. Last edited by Berylstone#2209 on Aug 31, 2021, 7:33:07 PM

I think some form of penalty (xp loss, timed low quantity drops, shameful icon on character for 30 minutes) is ok, but not to the point of the player feeling no or negative progress. this only makes the experience frustrating and deter trying difficult contents.
Penalty loss should be a percentage of the "xp gained/hour" which is like the earning power of players. you don't tax 10k on a average income person but to a billionaire, that's tissue paper. Personally, i already feel bad when i get killed by a boss, especially when i have no idea what hit me. Last edited by suitto#4400 on Aug 31, 2021, 9:43:42 PM

1. Play HC
2. GIT GUD! lol, but seriously: The exp penalty...lets be real here...ONLY affects players lvl 95-100. Leveling is so fast before that its hardly noticeable. So in essence the punishment is really to make the climb to level 100 a challenge. As others have said, without any type of penalty dying becomes meaningless. Since items have no durability, we can't really do a durability hit. Because there is no central currency we can't really do a currency penalty. This leaves very very few options left to deter death. 1) Have an exp penalty, but leave a corpse where players can recover SOME lost exp back if they chase down their corpse. This idea would ONLY work if it was harder to recover your corpse a la Diablo 2 where you lost all your equipped items. But, if this were to happen in PoE, you would never make it back to your corpse and just keep incurring the penalty over and over again. 2) Have a delayed penalty that punishes you in the future, rather in that immediate instance. From a psychological standpoint, this is FAR WORSE than people seem to think it would be. Sure, a death at lvl 99 makes you feel like quitting. IN THAT MOMENT. The vast majority of players that say they wanna quit because of the exp penalty end up coming back. If that punishment were delayed and affected your gameplay for multiple hours afterward, this would KILL your desire to continue progressing as nothing feels worse in an RPG than suddenly gaining less than what you were a minute ago. A one-off punishment is fleeting, a delayed punishment is torturous. 3) Lose items from your inventory/equip. This would be the absolute WORST decision. Look at Heists: exp loss may hit you hard, but losing EVERy ITEM YOU PICKED UP is like a shot in the face. I can't really think of any other possible scenario in this type of game, with its gearing and currency structure. There HAS to be a death penalty, and I personally feel like an immediate exp loss is the best possible scenario for the MAJORITY of players. Again...realistically...this punishment is ONLY a problem for players 95-100 which is an incredibly small portion of the player base. You simply cannot please everyone. Failure must carry a penalty.
