Get rid of the xp loss
|
Yesterday's random death:
I'm doing scourge, open the door to a little room after popping flasks, steelskin and smoke mine on myself, and the instant I click the door I'm dead. I look inside and there are only like 4-5 of those tiny normal crawler mobs, nothing magical, much less rare. I've absolutely no idea what happened, surely having all your defensives popped (I also use arctic armor) should at the very least protect you from exploding literally instantly to a few normal mobs. It's frustrating getting wiped out in one single hit - I agree with the poster that says this one-shot mechanic should be scrapped, and IMO it should.
XP loss needs to be reduced drastically so its not as if we're being punished for getting killed, which is itself punishment enough: being killed 100x in a boss battle sucks, but also is a wakeup call to farm/craft (if not SSF, also trade) for better gear. Here is how I would do it: Killed because you're idle: 10% of total required: Here you're aware there are monsters that can/will kill but you've not taken adequate precaution for afk, hence the high penalty. Killed by a trap that CAN be avoided - 5% of total. You saw it but did not move out the way in time, hence the penalty. Boss battle death - 0%, and after 3x: 5% of total. 3 strikes and then you start losing small amounts, just enough of a penalty to remind one to be better prepared without unnecessarily punishing one. Beyond our (players') control includes but is not limited to these: Killed due to unseen (off screen and invisible) attack - 0% Killed due to unavoidable attacks: 0% Kill due to lag - 0% If properly implemented it wouldn't be so punishing. Making the game a bit easier on newer and casual players would draw more from D3 and other ARPG - I did a quick read-up and its clear that for non-hardcore ARPG players, D3 takes the cup. The main bone of contention: The XP-based death penalty. |
