Will anything ever change Chris Wilson's philosophy on PoE?
" It was my very first point, if you scroll back you´ll see that this is literally where I entered the discusison - when people were bitching about harvest-nerf. |

I've said my piece about harvest. Having harvest in between where its at now and in the past would bring back plenty of players. I've made enough with present state of harvest, but it's just boring.
Why go quiet on other portions of my post? Has it all made sense to you? Would love to see you make an excuse of a discussion(argument). `Spent 2 mirrors on my build, but I'm only Level 98.` LOL `From just quick sweep of your characters, toxic rain, golems .. sure, non meta... sure.` LOL `What are divs?` Last edited by LiMA6#0387 on Jun 8, 2021, 8:00:12 AM

Last two pages of the discussion somehow reminded me of this

Built it and they will come IMO. Who they is may vary. Like I doubt most of you can ride a 450 MX bike like a pro, in fact most of you would get yourself killed on one but they still sell to a certain segment of the population. I ride a 250 but I bet that would be too much for you. Anyway this game is like the 450 of ARPG games. Don't like it go Diablo...still too frustrating? play a flying simulator or something. Everything has it's place.
This is not to say game is not above criticism. But you're gonna have a hard time convincing us who fell in love with game when it was much much harder RNG and gamplay wise. Like do you know we used to exalt maps to sustain? Or that no crafting at all once existed? No trade other than trade chat? Yeah..seems like Chris has changed just not fact enough for casuals. I'm not sure citing examples where the game was ridiculous before, makes a compelling case why it shouldn't be improved now.
The fact is I have played a lot of path of exile, perhaps 1500+ hours over the course of the last 5 years. I generally reach character level 90 in league, clear uber lab, and get into red maps. I have never killed shaper, elder, sirus (i have fought him once), or maven. I have never "finished" my atlas. It's not because I don't want to see this content, I desperately do. There is just too much grinding. Eventually I get bored with no progress to my character, no currency accumulated to trade for an upgrade, and I sure as hell won't have the resources or the will to engage this crafting system. I love the depth and the build diversity of this game, but I feel like this idea that it is accessible only to the elite few is a crazy business model. Ultimately, the game is theirs to do with it as they like, but I am a paying customer and I am giving the clearest feedback that I can: I do not like the grind, lack of auction house, and difficulty of the crafting system. GGG do what you will with this feedback, but it is hard to support a game that so clearly has different goals than I do when it comes to my entertainment time. |

The problem with this philosophy the old/core/founders of GGG is clinging to, is that it is one that was conceptualized around a game with couple thousand players, a decade ago.
As the game evolve, and your game grow, and technology evolve, you have to be able to step back and consider if everything you so frantically cling to, against all reason, is really the right way to go. "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. " ~ Hunter S Thompson ~

" I think complexity / difficulty of this game makes it interesting. I'm no pro but I do not have issues getting far in this game, getting some mirrors. But you know, I do not like too much repetitive/daunting tasks. However, I am certain that with the right build, people can spend 5-10ex and still get to red maps in this game. `Spent 2 mirrors on my build, but I'm only Level 98.` LOL

" I don't know what their business strategy is (and I sometimes doubt they know it themselves), but, if there is a trend to make the game more casual friendly (and, going by what you say, there clearly is), then, when you invite them in and they voice their concerns, you can't feign surprise, shock or dismay at what they say. If casuals is now a targeted audience because your game entices them, then bear their criticism. |

OK, so with a little investment, I or anyone can get to red maps. I agree. Generally speaking, I have never had 5-10 ex to invest in a character but your point is correct I won't quibble over the details. With the right build I generally get to t12-t14 maps on between 50c and 1ex worth of currency.
But this accomplishes me nothing, league events or bosses are beyond my ability or means to access. Maven and Trialmaster, who or what are these bosses? I'll never fight them, This content might as well not exist for how difficult it is to access. There has to be a way to develop goals that appeal to the uber wealthy elite players and also provide me some ability to particiapte in cool events/challenges. I'd like to see a game that retains the play difficulty/complexity but opens up accessibility. What would happen to a POE league if currency dropped at 5x the normal rate? What about 100x? At my normal acquisition rates, this would mean that I would have about 100ex-200ex in my inventory. Would this break the game or would it keep me engaged long enough and allow access to upgrades where I can actually play the content the GGG team labors to create. I know what I think the answer is. |

Increasing the currency droprate like that wouldn't do anything for you because it would simply cause inflation. The stuff you'd want would just be more expensive.
