XP loss on death = time loss. Time loss = frustration/negative feelings.

I get it, you are happy with going to third party programs to work out how to play a game because you have 23 hours a day to play, agree to disagree, the entire point of this thread is that not everyone lives in a basement so we do not all have more time to theory craft on path of building than to play the game.
I started in closed beta, ggg has had since 2012 to make game tool tips work..
I do not get payed to make this game, i pay them to make the game..
I should not need to download a community script to work out how to build a character capable of not randomly dropping dead after 240 ex investment.
Literally nothing you have said actually combats the original argument made, if anything you help it.
Your elitist attitude is literally the reason people leave the game.

Regular players of poe: "this game is ridiculously hard to play with a limited time window and is too gated behind janky mechanics and bad ui/toop tips."

Elitist nerd: "HERR YOU GUYS ARE JUST IDIOTS LOOK AT THIS GUY WHO PLAYS THE GAME FOR A LIVING HE NEVER DIES IN HIS 5,000 EX DONATED GEAR YOU JUST NEED TO GET GOOD!!!"

Regular players: "Yeah nerd thats my point."

Imagine a video game that has limited continues or lives before you have to restart the whole game over.

Oh wait, it was reality until Developers started catering to Quick save, Save scum and johnson & johnson no tears failures.

If you make a casual build then you're going to get casual results. I would much prefer this game not become like Warframe where knowledge of game mechanics mean absolutely nothing and there's no gap between good players and bad ones.

I get that the game has a steep learning curve with it's way of wording effects and bonuses but you don't need path of building at all to clear the game when you know what those bonuses mean and the mechanics.

I would say the problem isn't a dying penalty. It's the builds which can nearly AFK the game or focus purely on avoiding mechanics without attacking or just spraying crap off screen that are a problem. Remove those so players have to actually choose when to attack and when to avoid and you'll see that "forced playstyle" dwindle real quick.

I am a human being mate not a calculator, there is about 2 billion mechanics in this game.

You don't make stuff up though like look it your gear you claimed you had X mitigation x this y that but in reality dude you're paper. This is the problem some of you think you have stuff haha but you don't have the defenses that you claimed like not even remotely close.

The numbers i stated are as listed on my defences page, which in any rpg game in history would be where you go to check your defences, crazy right?

You don't really need to be. There are a lot of different mechanics yea but estimation and understanding the layers works perfectly fine. Path of Building is often just overkill similar to jewel clusters.

The way the game is being played is more important than the numbers these days when it comes to how enemies are being designed. GGG is trying to combat builds like Blade Vortex or back in Legion Slayer Screen wide Spin and Win. Players are making builds that only require half the attention investment so GGG are making a single mistake massively punishing.

I always play the build I want to play. I can tell if it's going to fail by lvl 80ish and if so then I'll reroll. Hexblast was my first this league since I hadn't played a self-cast in forever then I went Zerker. I hate lazy builds and if I only get lvl 93-95 as a result then I'm fine with that because I enjoyed what I played.

Honestly, at the end of the day there is only one way of checking if your DPS/defenses are up to par. Play the fucking game. If you get hit by shit and bend over chances are your defenses are shit, if you take 10 minutes to kill a map boss chances are your DPS is shit. You don't need a tool tip, character sheet or even POB to figure this much out. And at the end of the day this game is so complex that non of them does a particularly good job at showing you defenses/DPS. POB especially often gives a completely flawed picture because of how much it compresses information.

DPS is a very specific metric based on averages and with the inherent assumption you actually stand there and dish out damage. Depending on your ability to actually do that your real DPS can be awesome or shit, no matter what POB says. Same for defenses. There is a large ass difference between a 12k EHP build who get's said EHP with ES stacking alone or one who has 6k HP and major mitigations. The higher the incoming damage is the harder it is to compensate it with sustain so high mitigation builds will always feel a lot better than pure HP sponges but in POB they will look the same.

The people in this community would do well to start using their brains and think for themselves instead of relying on guides, tools and numbers they don't even comprehend.

You don't have to live in a basement and play 24/7 for any of this. Finished high school and some common sense are all you need.

Oh well it must be that simple if the guy who has never got a character over 95 says so..
Thread is about random one shot deaths making the climb to 100 frustrating, you have never even been close to 100 so all your snark is worthless.
My post has nothing to do with level 100 (which you've never reached either btw so stop acting like you know shit about it) only with you complaining that you have all those fancy numbers somewhere and things still don't work out for you. I am telling you they don't work out because you don't understand the numbers you are working with. You rely on shit you don't understand to make judgements and then wonder why you get proven wrong all the time.

Now you have 2 choices, try to change your builds and make them work, or keep whining how unfair the world is. Your choice.

I feel discussion of XP penalty always goes in circles, partly because it comes down to actual preferences of people and they differ. It's not about player skill alone but player preferences on enjoying a game, which is why gid gut doesn't cut it.
