XP loss on death = time loss. Time loss = frustration/negative feelings.

Just wanted to say:
Your signature is hilarious!
GGG is missing out on a LARGE consumer base and extra support by making their game too harsh and catered to the elitists. Time spent going backwards in any way is a terrible game design these days, too many other options. Some people forget, a large portion of gamers play games to escape the stresses of real life, myself included, and to sink money and time into a game that constantly punishes you is not going to keep many new people around.

I have said this multiple times, give us a separate server per league that has no experience loss. I would play more as a result and might actually care to finish this game at some point. Right now, I just play it when I can do some of the content without frustrations, which sometimes difficult to accomplish. So I trade, craft, try to advance, but in the end, I know there experience loss looming at higher levels, so I just eventually move on to another game

Making a game as complex and challenging (at least for a newer player, or the more experienced players that never learn) as poe easier is probably more likely to lose customers.

Perhaps instead of whinging on the forum, you could spend a bit more time, maybe a minute or two to fix up your build or playstyle? It is difficult to take someone seriously when they have ~30 level 70 characters that all have 3 life flasks and 2 mana flasks.

i like how every death penalty discussion goes the same direction :D
whiteknights gonna blame the bad characters and bad playstyle
but people they just ignore the fact that they just dont like it overall wether they're good equipped playing bad or good
does it matter?

imo its bad because there is no 100% prevention of getting oneshotted
dont like my opinion? move on :D

Every time I die in game I die a bit in real life. That's just so... Infuriating? Sad?

I know a lot of times I die - that's my fault. But there are deaths that just happen unexpected. And you don't know if that's you or the game. This patch there are crashes. Few times I died while game was desding to close or not(crashed).

Loosing loot? Well. That's a different story.
Loosing xp on lvl 97+? I begin to hate my life and GGG.

there is, just build a tanky char if you hate losing xp, avoiding oneshots was never easier in poe's timeline
What is with this argument that people think it's a bad thing that you can't build completely immune to every 1 shot in the game. Can you imagine someone saying this in any other pve game ever? Like if I saw someone say this in... idunno... wow, you'd be called a moron by pretty much everybody. It's facepalming that this mentality is somehow a fucking norm in poe. It's this same mentality where you want no risk whatsoever, you want to play this game with little to no actual impediments... how the flying fuck will a game like that ever be good? Answer is: it won't. Ever.
I still die on my gladiator.
75/76/75 res, 73% phys reduction, 79/79 block, 85 chaos res, 5k hp and 5 million dps..
maxed out godpowers, corrupting blood immunity..
Stuff STILL kills me, normally when i can't see through all the screen clutter, died to bartuk prison i couldn't see today, no idea what damage that thing does but you can't mitigate it worth shit.

The problem is penalising people literal HOURS of work for dying to something that as you said can never be fully prevented.
I work full time, sometimes i get 5 hours in a week to play this game, dying at 97 or 98 literally kills 2 hours out of that 5.

A good penalty would be losing all xp gained in that instance or map, not a flat 10% rate.

Then either brush up your mechanical skills or build something that's tankier than that glass cannon glad. The solution is the same for every single pve game.
