Will anyone try out Neverwinter when it hits OB? Also feedback on how the p2w is implemented

So its open now hmph.. guess I'll download it one of these days. What I read is 1. its 4e 2. its too casualized... but guess I won't judge till i test, tho i don't expect much.

Bet its servers won't be down much more than DDO nowadays, and with it waiting for NGE and implementing RMAH I'm not sure neverwinter can do much worse. Or it might just make me reinstall old NWN1 lol.

I played a bit, the game is kind of fun. I can see it becoming a chore soon. DDO is way better then this for anyone interested in playing a D&D based MMO.

EDIT: Let me give more details. Game does not have much to do with DnD, from start both life and damage numbers are high. Party based mechanics that DnD is based around are totally ignored as well as any attempt at a story, roleplay or choice that DnD is based around.
You run through single rooms, kill braindead enemies (those are the ones that just stand there while you kill their ally 5m away). In DDO, once you attack one guy you pull whole groups of enemies that were around there.
Items drops are almost nonexistant, and quests are just a placeholder for real content.

Only thing fun is fast leveling and playing around with new skills. But that kind of fun does not last long.

I would have tried the game but as is the case with most PWE games, the exceptions being TL and TL2, my region is disabled.
I'll instead wait very patiently on Pathfinder Online https://goblinworks.com/

Since they already announced the game will also have huge changes of mechanics to the point of not even having same classes and such I don't care about that game as well.

I think Elder Scrolls Online will be the game to play afterall.

Yeah after playing a bit I agree with all this, AND... the combat system is so slow/nonresponsive its just hilarious, like watching a freaking powerpoint (no its not lag, its the way it works), turn based that pretends its real time kinda crap. And with mob's range/aoe/whatnot clearly shown for you, its braindead, which idiot is gonna stand in the middle of big red circle waiting for 10 seconds for boss to hit him? Mixed with aggro range that's non existant, it's making you real bored real quick, someone turn turbo mode on please?

Bah. Is this really 2013 or did I just step into time machine to 1990? Didn't think they could disappoint me, not that I expected more than a few hours till uninstall but this... ugh. Don't really care about p2w crap, the core of the engine/game is just bad enough that even if it had no p2w I wouldn't give a damn wasting my time on it.

I played the PW game Jade Dynasty for a little bit. It had the same mechanics where you could buy mounts, crafting supplies, and pets in the cash shop and trade for the zen with in game gold.

That game ended up being the biggest money-grubbing cash cow I've ever played. Had to pay for the best mounts and the only way to craft decently was to spend a ton of money. Since the exchange to zen was player controlled, a few players controlled the entire market to make it extremely hard to not spend money to stay competitive.

I'll reserve my judgement of Neverwinter, but being a PW published game I remain skeptical.

Ooof… that’s cuz you were doing it all wrong :( you have to do what I do and not spend a single dime – play on a JD private server. You get shitloads of jaden from vote points. I played for 5 min on retail saw what kind of bullshit was being presented and then went to a private server where I get a shit ton of jaden every 4-5 hours, in the thousands, just for voting. And I got all the cool mounts, a firmus esper, blah, blah, blah :)

In case you like the game, and want to return, I suggest checking out the “Aria gaming network” or “TTGN” – good stuff :)

Oh and the community is great there too :)

Oh and maybe wait until neverwinter comes out on a pserver - probably be much better. I only play the "older" games on pservers now; wow, foresaken world, aion, etc....
The Pope quit, a meteor fell on Russia, an
asteroid came close to the earth, there's snow
in Arizona, star wars and star trek have the
same director! Who the hell is playing jumanji?

Combat is not that slow, it suffers from same problem PoE does: animation locks. I play a wizard, and once I start casting a spell there is no moving until it finishes.
The red circles are kind of cool and obviously there for casual players. I don't mind them that much. Maybe later there will be less of those. When fighting melee enemies you can also dodge their attacks that don't have red circles.
And DDO is faster game with faster combat then Neverwinter. In DDO nobody stands still at any time, be then ranged or melee.

Hmph maybe but I never felt that way about POE skills - guess its my builds that favor fast paced never stop moving skills. I mean there is slow start but it quickly gets way faster to notice. I just feel as if i'm waiting for execution all the freaking time, totally breaks my combat experience. Feels totally detached and nonresponsive. And yeah, casuals, bleh, just leaves more of a 'casual-proof' feel, but I guess it's a matter of perspective/opinion.

I agree with DDO, one thing that kept me coming back, no casting timers no waiting for animations, keep moving and pay attention or stay still and die. If there is one thing they did amazing its the combat system imo. Too bad it turned/is turning into something... else...
