Exp Loss is freaking unbalanced

Skill, to me, when it comes to gaming, is about timing, knowing when to act, and reflexes. PoE requires very little of any of those. Most loot based ARPGs are the same way.

So you prefer FPS games ? :P

I recommend Planetside 2, fun game where timing, knowing when to act and reflexes are at a premium.
Did I say I HAVE skill? Hell no, I don't, it's why I play Loot Based ARPGs. It's because they're not ever 'hard core'. PoE is unfun because the Devs have no idea that balance in these games actually favour the player. Because of the limited mechanics set that players are given.

There's a reason why the FF7 Materia system was in a Turn Based RPG, as was the FFX Passives Skill tree was in a pseudo-Real Time, turn based RPG. Trying to shove both systems into a Diablo 2 clone was cute and clever, but if you limit it to 5 actual builds, then you defeat the purpose of the entire system.

My problem with PoE is that it's not a very professional job. The production values are cute, but balance? They have no clue what they're doing, or at least that's the impression they've given with their ridiculous armour system, the over powered bosses, and forced gear checks at various points in the same difficulty level.

To each his own I guess ?

I am finding the game to be vastly more interesting than other similar games out at the moment such as TL2 or D3.
Many of the design choices are very nice and bring a lot of fun to the game as well as tons of customisation options that the other games lack.
Difficulty feels great, in that even normal can be challenging, which really reminds me of older games as opposed to the trend these days of making the default playthrough so simple a blind baboon could do it.

At level 80, the death penalty will make you rage quit :) They got rid of the penalty in D3 for a reason.

It sucks but it definitely didn't make me rage quit at all.

D3 felt completely retarded without a death penalty. Zerg rushing elites was beyond boring and felt stupid. I'm sure D3 is much different now, I am only referring to how it was when I played it.

And to anyone who wants to say "PoE has zerging!", PoE has nothing like what I am referring to.

Zerg rushing elites is more possible in D3 now than what it was back then. When D3 came out, it had an ever increasing timer for each death, and if the timer got long enough, the elites would regen all of the damage they took.

It was basically impossible to kill content that was "higher" level than you for this reason
D3 is a perfect example of why the xp death penalty is nice. It means there's some tension when playing softcore too, some thought put in to make sure you don't die etc.
In D3 people in softcore were ALL running around with glass cannon builds chain dying for progress and crap. Death was meaningless.

I really don't understand why people complain about this. If you die a lot in a specific area or on a specific boss, perhaps you need to reconsider your build, gear or approach instead of mindlessly throwing yourself at it again and again ?
I do think the XP penalty should be reduced. After 100s of hours of farming docs, I've only got two maps. It sucks, no maps, huge penalty XP hit for for being over leveled and severe XP lose for deaths because I can't get currency to level gear or sell. Can't anyone see this! :(

Yeah, if you don't get lucky in your drops or make a lot of smart trades for the gear you need, the game can present a pretty steep wall. I've seen numerous players come across this and want to give up. I do feel like there should be things to make the curve more gradual.
I stoped playing atm raged at 3 desync deaths = -45% at lvl 81. Not fun being punished for game problems. Cautiously playinng is bulsh1t - im defence build and when i stay in empty room and in next sec i loose 1,9k ES and 4,2k HP seeing myself in room full of mobs - i just give up. My solution - leaguage without dead penalty = play what you want.
My contribution: Dont make a fixed percent loss, it should depend on the level you are and how you earn experience. Its not the same lose 10 mins of grinding exp to lose 2 or 3 hours of grinding... Its obvious that people won't have fun with mechanics like this, and if we take in count that half of the deaths at higher levels are desync issues... ;\

My contribution:

*Let hardcore league be as it is

*Let default league be as it is

*Make a new "childish D3 players league", with no exp penalty, infinite respecs, map drops on every mob, all items got 6 sockets, gold currency, AH, no voidbearers, currency always give what players want (maybe a desplegate menu asking player which he want with his orb use) and monsters dealing 5 damage max.

And everybody happy.
