Exp Loss is freaking unbalanced
Dark Souls difficulty was generally an entire different type of difficulty
The game had a massive amount of "gotchas", which if you didn't know about, got you killed basically instantly |

Yes, dsync is fuck and will propperly be adressed one day, but hey this is a beta dont whine. Report the problem, "dont is it very repported" play on or log out! " I think you're being a bit unfair to Dark Souls here. Yes there are many things that can kill you quickly, but careful observation can allow you to avoid many of them. I think the only truly dick moment in that game is the capra demon boss fight. |

" Thats what I meant by gotchas, things like traps in the environment or mobs, which if you werent aware of, basically killed you instantly Its a different type of difficulty compared to PoE, in fact both games are pretty much uncomparable |

" Okay. I'm still not sure if you intended that as a criticism of Dark Souls or not. I agree that the games are largely incomparable. DS often seems like an action game with a stats system bolted on. POE, and other ARPG's, seem like stats games with real time action systems bolted on. |

" If you pay a bit of attention of what is being discussed in this and many other topics in the past, you would realize that exp penalty at lvl74 might be regained in 30 minutes but at level 78 it can already be an hour or two. It only get worse and worse from there onward because the experience gain penalty currently in the game is making it very hard to regain lost exp in a reasonable amount of time. Maps are not the answer to this because you can rely on high level maps for experience grinding due to their scarcity. Lvl66 map is giving you 1 or 2% at max at level 82. Developers themselves have recognize there is a problem with experience gain. They have mentioned potential solution to this in the manifesto--change in exp gain formula or maps for pure exp. Lastly, hardcore penalty is not a valid argument. If you choose to play hardcore, you do so with a full understanding that one death means you are losing your character for good. PoE is rather weak in this because you are not losing dead HC character but it is instead moved to default league. Shit for HC gamers, shit for default ones because their league is flooded with gear, gems and currency causing inflation. Default, or softcore, is the league where discussing death penalty makes sense. There are people, many I dare to say, who are simply discouraged by death penalty especially at higher levels. Some other poster said it very well, I just paraphrase him/her--if death makes you play less and less, something is wrong with the game. In contrary, death should be making you want to play more to get better and overcome the challenge placed ahead of your by the game. I sure feel frustration every time I die on any of my 80+ characters because I know I have just lost hours of grinding. |

Why are you dying to enemies that are FAR below your level in the first place?
Big lvl gap deserves a bigger penalty. |

" This is trolling at its best. I still bite. Every "hardcore" fan of this game was boasting about the fact you cant out-level this game. Did this "feature" change? What would be the stat tied to level that would actually impact survival? Accuracy is one I can think of, yet some of the most deadliest attacks can not miss. Elemental resistances are not tied to level as far as I can tell. Player level only grants a bit more basic stats and passive points. First thing is negligible and the later will have minor impact on most builds that are finished at around 90 points spent. The reality is that certain mobs, rares and bosses are completely oblivious to level difference--Vaal's smash, multiprojectile Voidbearer/any caster (fun times if they roll in lvl72 map), Kole and his clones, Poison Alchemists. PoE is not a MMO, those are games where level difference is explicitly tied to character performance against a target, be it higher or lower. Lastly, I'm not aware of the fact PoE has varying penalty for dying apart from the scaling related to difficulty setting. Do you suggest I lose more exp if I die to a lvl55 zombie or a lvl71 Piety from Temple map? Must be new thing or what... |
