Playing 'better' is not going to help you, because this is a Loot Based ARPG. There is no skill involved here.

keep telling yourself that.

Then they aren't very good players, and or don't want to play the easy mode builds that are out there.

This game is easy, if you pick the right build. And that is easy to find.

Did I read this right? Level 90+ HC players 'are not very good players'? The ONLY reason they haven't died is that they 'picked the right build'. It has nothing at all to do with the fact that they are BETTER AT THE GAME THAN YOU? Blissfully ignorant you are.

There is a lot more to this game than 'clicking with one hand'. There is a reason some people are much better than others, and I don't think they are just better at clicking.

Pretending that there is no skill at all involved in playing PoE successfully is exaggerating by quite a lot. Knowing the game plays a role, build plays a role, skill plays a role, gear plays a role.

In my opinion, skill is kinda under-represented though, because there are few complex challenges. Mobs have very few abilities of their own, and there's not much you can do to actively counter them. If one wants for skill to play a more important part, a first step would be to implement skills/counter-skills. You'd still die if your build is messed up or have bad gear, of course, even if countering properly though. But even with great gear&good build, you shouldn't be able to regen&leech through X mobs and so on by just spamming your nuke and drinking some flask out of boredom from time to time. Such a system will keep people on their toes, ready to counter different mob abilities, and active skill would play a bigger part.

I don't think anything like this will ever be implemented in PoE though. Many people here just like to faceroll countless mobs, pick up lots of loot, and spam a single skill 95% of the time.

I faceroll maps clicking 1-3 buttons on my mouse while i sip on my latte and have conversations with people on skype....

Seriously what is the world coming to when people think a 3 finger feat takes any form of skill outside of common sense?

When people say that PoE requires no skill, its often in context relative to other games, and relative to other games, PoE has little to no skill depth

Its like when people say something is terrible, they do so because that thing compared to everything else (that is comparable) is worse off

The top players load up on about 3-4 Auras, get themselves a ranged combat skill gem, if it's Lightning Strike or Groundslam, you get as many range boosters as possible, if it's a spell or actual ranged, like Lightning Arrow, you get yourself a multiple projectile producer and similar boosters you spam that ONE skill until you clear the zone.

At what point is there skill involved?

Diablo 3 has more skill, and that's not a hard game. With my Barbarian, I'm actually hitting all my button skills when I need to, because there's some situations were Overpower is needed, or Earthquake (usually when surrounded by tough mobs.)

But not in PoE, here it's all about the toggle auras and spamming a single ranged skill.

This game is not hard, it's cheap.
If there's no skill involved, how come the same people consistently place well in the race events?
