" This is a false premise, since coins more or less show heads and tails equally distributed. When you decide to go pure EV, you get a coin that shows heads 5% of the time and tails 95% of the time. Granted, the 5% still suck. But people already said that you usually supplement EV with dodge and/or block, basalt flasks and the like, so it's not even 5%. And you're less likely to actually take a crit. Bird lover of Wraeclast

" Damn, you must be stuck in yellow-tier maps. I have basic evasion/dodge character with around 6.6k HP and limited damage mitigation. I'm no longer panicking when I get hit for 5k by T14+ metamorphs or Shaper guardians. Eradicator with bad map mods can delete me in less than 2 seconds through all my pots. And I definitely do not let them hit me, they just do it on their own (very fast as well). This is by the way highest HP ranged character I have ever created and it is still squishy as hell. |

Actually it is anything BUT garbage.
Due to the entropy-based nature of Evasion you are guaranteed to evade a certain number of incoming hits if the hit is actually evadable (not a spell for example). That means with 50% chance to evade or higher you are guaranteed to never take 2 hits from attacks in a row, which implies that you are immune to chain-stunning. That means your chance to evade is actually a flat damage reduction of x%. That makes Evasion much better than Armor (which only works against physical damage btw) which is less effective against big hits. In a most extreme example: if you get crit for 50.000 physical damage your character will get oneshot even if you have 100k armor because you will still take upwards of 20.000 damage. But with about 50k eva you will still live around 75% of the time. Besides, Evasion also gets a second chance to evade critical damage. So even if a monster crits you get a second chance to evade the extra damage. Besides, nowadays you have layered defences. You have blind, dodge, block, evasion, resistances, guardskills, endurance charges, raw damage reduction and a lifepool to survive incoming damage. With this type of layered defence Evasion is by no means in a worse spot compared to Armor. Considering that Eva works against more damagetypes compared to Armor, I´d actually say it is much better. Evasion can't dodge area attacks, bleed, curses (even if u got dodge spell hit).
Much of the evasion is actually done manually like killing the mobs before they hit you and moving out of their way. Try tanking a boss with a low dps weapon and you can see how many times you can get hit (try with lvl 100 or 0 exp character or the deaths will be a miserable one). Having high move speed without evasion works too because if you are killing and spamming the whole screen...oh well...who needs evasion? |

" Actually, if it´s an attack you CAN evade it, even if it has an AoE component. If the bleed is applied through an attack you can evade it as well, and even if you don´t evade the attack you get a second chance to evade the status effect. And Curses yeah sure. But armor doesn´t stop curses either, so what´s your point? Armor also doesn´t help against ground DoT effects and does not reduce the damage from bleeding. Armor is vastly better than evade at the moment, not just because of VMS but because its easier to get without impacting your build in any way, it also has far higher impact at lower numbers.
If you get up into the 90% range for evade though it starts to pull ahead, it just takes pretty heavy investment to get there. I personally played evade for quite a while and it was my preferred playstyle but one of the leagues introduced a large number of physical spells and I went off it pretty hard from then on. Also fairly sure you don't get a seperate roll to evade status ailments, if a hit that will apply bleed hits you you get bleed otherwise it would double dip defensively. Crits have to do a second roll but that isn't the same thing. Last edited by Draegnarrr#2823 on Feb 19, 2020, 11:07:20 AM

However for crit part evasion, I'm under impression that pseudo-randomness doesn't work. It's just true random there. Correct me if I'm wrong.
But that's still miniscule detail. Evasion when done properly works even on HC. MY CHALLENGES ARE DONE ON HC, IT'S NOT SC GUYS!
