Is it just me or is Evasion complete garbage?
Hi brothers....
i do not make a point of evassive... and yes they are complete garbage!!! u can have 100000000000% evade and other 100000 tons of dodge and bla bla ...it dosent work. they are only worry about selling skins and new stashes. combat mecanincs and defenssive stats seems to be in the 100th plan. so sry to say that, but it is the truth. i'm pretty sure most people crying here are;
-using AR/EVA or ES/EVA gear with no evasion rolls and say "i'm using evasion" -dont know the difference between attacks, spells and DoT's -dont know which enemies uses which skills -are actually dying to chaos damage -again with the enemy knowledge -do not actually have any evasion taken from the tree, other that life(eva hybrids.. but they sure have 3 times the needed damage to 1-shot white/bluemonsters at any tier -don't realize that no matter what, you will eventually get hit and die such is life unless you have 10k+ ehp(which is up, not down or halfway there). i bet these people also goes only for damagerolls, flaks and whatnot.. because who need defence anyway. d:-D*

Evasion is useless in the eternal Labyrinth, I'm not very good with movement skills and just get annihilated by the saws and spikes etc. So my build stops without the last ascendancy, which means my game basically comes to an end :(

I feel like Evasion builds got nicer with the Elusive nodes on the tree and Wind Dancer (which I think might help against damage over time that doesn't count as hitting you).

Elusive is a hot pile. Same as evasion. And avoidance in general (besides block).
Most of the EV preachers has always been either on SC or total noobs. They don't care if they die and when char is at higher lvl it happens less mostly due to accumulation of HP. Then they call it a day. Yet to see high tier EV player in leagues where "ressurect in town" teleports you in a different league. Avoidance in general has always been trash, and never ever in PoE lifetime it could work successfully standalone. While other defences could, at times. This defence is just an add-on to other, better ones. Over investment or relance on it is waste of time. It's definitely true that a certain defence mechanic is unlikely to do the work on its own. Combining defensive layers has always been the way to go, and it should be this way.
The problem with EV is it's so unreliable, that it even barely works as an addon. Threads like this one exist since the early development, I remember. Acrobatics exists precisely because of multiple complaints, altogether with the clear understandidng about the issue on developers' side. Later on, the penalties were implemented for balance reasons and to cement acro/EV "friendship". No other defensive mechanic ever had such a bandaid, and it says a lot. EV isn't bad on its own as a mechanic, in a vacuum. But it's just incompatible with the nature of PoE - the unpredictable occasional damage bursts out of nowhere, which always existed. And that's why EV has always been the shit, and mitigation the king. And with progression of the game accompanied with piles of power creep and damage inflation, EV is now in the saddest state it has ever been. It just doesn't fit. So this is my first league where I've got to proper mapping. before this league I had never killed a conqueror, now I've killed them all twice.
my build this league has heavy evasion. So to me it seems to be working just fine? Not sure what the issue is? Or is this just about super high tier? |

The main reason so many people think that evasion, or avoidance in general is weak, is because they use it as the centerpillar of their defensive concept. For a good defense you first need a decent EHP pool which means high HP/mitigation so that oneshots are less likely to happen. Then you can start adding avoidance on top to reduce the number of hits you take.
The good thing about evasion and dodge is that it's so easy to fit into a build. Some form of blind for free 50% evasion and vaal grace for free dodge when needed. A build that focusses entirely on avoidance will always face the problem that, no matter how much avoidance he has, at some point he will take a hit. And if, at that point, the HP/mitigation isn't good enough he bites the dust. So no, it's not garbage, you just need to use it properly. Last edited by Baharoth15#0429 on Jul 20, 2020, 3:19:30 PM
