Wolcen overtook POE as the new number 1 arpg game on Steam (127k concurrent players at the moment)
I don't really see a game like Wolcen creating a long term challenge to PoE. It's a fine ARPG... but doesn't have it to go the distance. Items are pretty meh. You don't "need", like you do in PoE. After a while you don't even "want". They missed the mark there.

" I dont think this is fair. Wolcens end-game challenge expeditions allow legandary items to have mini-passive nodes, and skills that normally the class couldnt use. This is VERY INTERESTING. I do find myself looking for upgrades. Also, PoE is already in the long term. A comparison would be to remove leagues and examine the core game. PoE doesn't look so great there... Is Wolcen on console?

" Nope and if/when it dose come to console it will be with the next generation as performance wise it actually hits the PC harder that PoE dose. (even with vsync and medium settings) Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

" Patching is exactly Why I don't want to use it, sometimes the allocating disc takes a long time even though using an SSD, not saying that people should not use steam though. if anybody wants to enter the house through the 3rd floor's window with a ladder be my guest. Don't try to hold it, flow with it.

" Wolcen is also "free" as you can get it and play it offline. These players are not counted by Steam as well. So the amount of people playing Wolcen right now is a lot more than that Steam figure. |

You are saying that brand new game in its first 2-3 days is more popular than PoE in the 3rd month of the league?
No shit sherlock... |

This is just one of those threads that you bookmark and come back to in 2-3 months (or more) and bump it after the smoke has cleared to get a better idea of how well it stands the test of time.
Spoiler
Unless they are doing something to keep players coming back, their numbers are going to drop to nothing until their next release -- much like Grim Dawn. I don't play Grim Dawn anymore but I would say last Spring something came out to spike their numbers for a month or two...then they dropped significantly again. Same principle.
D3 had a lot of players as well. Probably still does. Since it has more to do with relative changes in numbers though, most view that game as dead. Doesn't matter. If GGG managed to keep the servers online to service myself and my friends only, I would still be happy with that. Thanks for all the fish!

^ idk...
How would PoE stand the test of time without temporary boosts from leagues. My guess isnt that well... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."
