D3 OR PoE

The Monk IS a melee class. Yes the spell animations use his fists in most (but again not all) animations.

Hmm... I will have to look. I didn't see any monk skills where s/he would actually swing or use your weapon. Personally, I feel that they should just force class weapons on everyone but the barbarian. Having a wizard or monk be able to use an axe seems to be hold-over from D1/2 rather than something that makes sense in D3's design.

Anyways, I think D3 seems to be really good (though streamlined) game, I just think there are a lot of artifacts of older design decisions.

Yes, and free games are free for a reason.

I have yet to play a free-to-play game that was better than a pay-to-play game in the same genre.

Oh dear why did I join this discussion. :/

I'm confused by why people think that its either PoE or D3. That's absurd. How about PoE and D3?

Well, I'm certainly enjoying the beta of Path of Exile considerably more than I enjoyed the complete, payed version of Torchlight.

Actually I'm enjoying this beta more than a lot of games I've bought/subscribed to in recent years.

I doubt very much that I'm alone in this...
Haven't played Diablo 3, but I have it pre-ordered. But the game hasn't convinced me from what I have seen. There is no class that appeals to me I wanted a Paladin type class and that is one thing PoE has going for it with the Templar.
Tommerbob, I felt precisely the same way as you a month ago.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

Does that mean a month from now he will also have donated 1k? :P
Give me a lever and a fulcrum.....hold on boss whats a fulcrum look like??
D3 will be released before PoEs open beta starts. Since I hate wipes I will play D3 until PoE launches and then decide which game I like more.

Oh, I doubt that. Just because two people start at the same place doesn't mean they end up at the same destination. I merely meant that I had a spectacularly low regard for free things. You get what you pay for, and all that. I'd also been burned pretty hard by pay-to-win models, which are nothing short of insidious in my opinion, especially to people like me who can afford to feed that machine but really, really shouldn't. Doesn't help that I clearly have an addictive personality!

Just a quick observation ... I might or might not like the D3, but I probably won't know for under $60 because they probably won't have a demo and even if I was in the beta there really isn't enough game to play. We also sort of know that the "press" generally thinks that Blizzard walks on water so we will get fairly uncritical reviews. I suspect it will be flawed but good much like Starcaft 2. With PoE I got to play a significant chunk of the game totally free and enjoyed it enough to toss in a few bucks for continue beta access and I might throw in a few more for a kiwi.

Does this mean I will never buy D3? No, but its certainly lost its luster since I played PoE.
