Will there be a new atlas every league now?

They really should lower the cost of the map tab to about 50 points now that you're pressured to buy more than one.

That being said... you don't have to. Sell your old maps, or run them, whatever. They're not "valuable" in storage.

Well, MTX prices since they got "supported" (read "bought" please) by Tencent, are less tolerable than they were when GGG was an "indie" dev. That also made me very reluctant to throw $ their way, besides their ineptitude to provide an actual functional game which should translate into an "enjoyable" experience instead of the current "hit & miss" fiasco we get to enjoy every 3 months even on Standard.

And old maps are very valuable in storage for collectors and hoarders alike, so you should rethink a bit your last point. They will always be as "valuable" as any currency orb in storage at least, because you can ALWAYS run them and get said orbs, so they are more meaningful than you might think at first glance...

Have you guys seen this video with Chris Wilson at the GDC 2019? watch it closely if you've not seen it before, as it reveals a huge amount about his mindset.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM_5S55jUzk&t=26s

He was bragging about how POE has grown since 2013 and how smart they are at understanding how the various different groups of players think about their game. He was really proud about how they understood the player retention problem with their temporary leagues and how players had "long term objectives" as well as short term. He used lots of graphs of player activity and was very proud of himself and his ability to explain what we all thought about his leagues. He even mentioned Standard as a place where players could be sure the results of their efforts were safe.

Hmmm... not sure he understands me or people like me who played Diablo 2 for 8 years. Chris' how about trying to retain the players that play Standard SSF? The ones like me who purchased a Unique Collection tab that you mentioned and boasted about in your presentation as a special way to retain players of a particular persuasion. Currently I have 472 out of the 884 possible uniques (plus unique maps that are in map tabs and a few uniques I am using) and I do see that as one of several long term objectives I have for this game.

Chris, how am I supposed to get anywhere near completing my objective (in Standard SSF, ofc) if you keep resetting the Atlas every 3 months? and wasting huge amounts of my time and in game currency? My time is limited and you keep messing up my atlas.

He even boasts about his tools team and how they invented a tool that makes it very easy to redo the Atlas and how this somehow creates a huge amount of "content" by refreshing the Atlas. He forgets about the fact that this effectively invalidates a huge amount of previous content that older players consider valuable (i.e. their red maps) and their progress towards the next level of the war between Elder and Shaper.

I'd be interested in other players opinions on how casual and insensitive he is to a large number of players he wants to "retain". Player Retention is a big part of how GGG see us, their player base, and he reveals just how little he really understands us players in all our various forms.

I was not favourably impressed by his presentation to the GDC 2019.

Saw it and it baffles me. At least it explains the mindset required for the current PoE state and illustrates a high degree of ineptitude regarding understanding the playerbase, their requirements, and the further solutions that need to be implemented.

Just like the sad "development manifesto" that tries to "hype" their "mythical attempt" to "fix melee", and hide their well deserved "nut kick" regarding "melee" as a "viable and enjoyable experience" in PoE compared with any game deserving the ARPG title (and it's not like TencentGGG were not fully conscious that they transformed PoE into an arcade shooter with some "faux" RPG elements slapped on as an afterthought, as that was a gradual process)...

At least they made Cyclone a "channeling" skill - doesn't everyone and their dog get that is "epic" only for the movement part (which should have worked like that since closed beta, but hey, we're "PoE" and that's saying it all), as slapping even more ways to trigger spells and not melee attacks is a subpar way of addressing "MELEE"???

Not managing in a satisfying manner this map tab + Atlas shuffling conundrum for Standard players actually makes me happy that I stopped throwing $$$ TencentGGG's way and ensures me I made the right decision...

Now place your bets regarding their 3.7.0 "melee rework", as I think the green 0 on the roulette table has the best chance to describe their effort, simply due to the fact they will miss the opportunity to also address offscreen clearing in the same patch...
PSS: Our almighty TencentGGG overlords are very scrupulous regarding criticizing their abilities to take proper decisions and consider everything "needlessly harsh and condescending"...

Good to know "free speech" doesn't apply in any form or manner on the forums these days...

Sorry if I'm being a bit of a noob and comment here but why doesn't ggg just make the map tabs remove only in standard when they switch the atlas? Wouldn't that easily solve part of the problem with map inventory? They do it for league players... don't know why standard can't get the same love? The resetting of progression is another matter though...:/

Gosh... Of course they can do it, as well as they can do so that one map tab will store all kinds of maps from subsequent leagues. But they don't want to do it, because they noticed that people instead of considering it a scam and stop playing, every three months buy a new map tab. It is a pure profit, in addition generated by a group of players who usually did not buy anything. Wilson celebrates and pats the originators on the back.

Of course, all this is momentary, because what Great Garbage Games is doing is nothing but selling reputation for an immediate and temporary increase in profits. In some time, when it turns out that they are not able to create anything that would be fun, optimized and devoid of a million gamebreaking bugs, this short-sighted tactic will turn against them.

Because suddenly they will be seen as greedy scammers, walking on the bar of the Chinese. Company, which is unable to deliver anything but garbage, and at the same time greedy and lying. In that case, there will be only one way left for them. Do you have mobile phones, exiles? :P

Can we have a response GGG? We're waiting and getting increasingly agitated

I'm not playing until we get an answer, since I'll just be wasting my time if all my maps are invalidated without a proper way to use them next league. We need a system that allows old maps to count for Shaper/ Elder and Daily missions or something similar. It is not a difficult problem to understand or fix.
thanks for keeping thread alive guys
lets keep this on their radar and keep it on page 1 till we get some action!

Is it possible devs did this on purpose to destroy POE because POE have sold to Tencent, they can create a new game like POE earlier than sell it again?

It's more likely that they had nothing to do with the decision, and are trying to find some contractual way to deal with the fallout from it.
Funny thing is that a big part of this community believes that GGG exists to make a pleasure for them. Unfortunately world is massively different. Companies are created to make money. When they stay big international corporations they are even more greedy. Share holders demand to be paid with dividends, otherwise they will demand to replace the entire board of directors. Tencent nor GGG are not charity funds - making money for their shareholders is the only reason of their existence. This is why you have to pay for new premium map stash tab every quarter and have new MTXs advertised almost every day. Your opinions and expectations do not matter as long an income is OK and numbers are in line with shareholders expectations.
