Obviously, they can't comment on this. It's part of their deal with their parent company. They likely saw a spike in income related to changing their atlas. So, players have to live with it. Your maps aren't as valuable as they were. You can find other things to measure worth.

This isn't about value.
This is about being able to play the game, at our pace, in the Standard, Permanent league.

I shouldn't lose all my progress that I've built up to get to shaper, because they want to change something in another league.

You get that "progress" back by running a map. The maps you've accumulated lose much of their function and become a liability rather than an asset. That's a big change to adapt to. Huge change. They shouldn't have made it flippantly. There should be an explanation and a discussion as to how it affects players. There wont be either.

But each time you run a T16 rare corrupted previous edition map, you still get locked out of Guardians, Shaper Realm and Vaal Temple. And you still need to DROP the new versions before fully completing both the Atlas and the last Sextant requirement. Every 3 months, a huge PITA hits us "fully completed Atlas" n00bs. It's even a lot worse for the "pro's" with shaped Atlas.

And it's funny, because they have the possibility of "locking" the completion progress on maps, as the unique ones shown for this last shuffle. That is why a "free Atlas respec" would make sense on Standard. It would allow diversity and a chance to experience content day 1 without "shooting through hoops".

And maps never lose value. Even those that miss out on the juicy sextant combo, or the new master missions, are a nice way to experience a cleaner, more streamlined, "vanilla" PoE mapping experience. Forcing players to necessarily convert them 3:1 gets boring instantly if we're talking about thousands.

But the great "1K pretzel eating meme dev & balance teams" can't even keep constant the way the maps DROP, as that is a "hit or miss" so often, that it also removes a lot of incentive regarding actually PLAYING POE...

They really need to "git gud & up to snuff"...

Presuming they have at marketing people with a higher IQ than a lettuce, they know you "don't kill the goose that lays golden eggs" and p1$$ off all the previous hard earned status of the product. No, really, they should have known better.

Sure, if we're talking about GGG being a small subsidiary of Tencent, and they now are forced to spew new content and MTX even more "regularly" than before, I get it. But that is detrimental. I supported until now at least 1K $, not to mention encouraging others to do so themselves. TencentGGG missed double that amount from me already, and I'm really fed up with their ineptitude.

Compare PoE with Divinity Original Sin 1/2, then tell me that PoE is an "RPG" and it's "a good one" with a "finished" product status. We might see PoE improve down the line (I'll probably keep playing my main to reach 100 at 1% each day, IF I don't get bored, and will get the chance to see if TencentGGG deserve "moar" support post the 3.7.0 "melee improvements" - I already call those insufficient and subpar, but it would at least be a START), probably with 4.0 at the earliest, but keeping it in the limbo between "beta" and "completed" game status can only work for so long...

So they have to address a plethora of problems "yesterday", but one as deal breaking as an Atlas shuffle that renders the Atlas unusable for experiencing content day 1 and not offering a satisfying option regarding at least map series conversion => I'll forever be a freeloader no matter what stuff they are coming up with. And I'd love new special tabs and new MTX, like the dragon pet and set, but if the game is not playable & enjoyable, I'm better off spending all those hard earned $$$ ANYWHERE ELSE...

Actually, that's a lot how marketing thinks. They've got your money. They figure that a new player is going to be a bigger source than an old-timer. Maybe. They have the numbers... I don't.

I don't like the move any more than you do. It's a dick move, and they're losing a lot of their "ethical" cred. But they have a bottom line, and they base their choices around it. If this brings in revenue, it's not a bad choice for them... even if it pisses us all off.

This. I was prepping to drop a fair amount of money to actually buy some MTX gear instead of my normal choice of just buying Skin Transfers, and just tossing in enough cash to make sure I had enough points to by a fossil tab if / when they ever bother to release one.

But, that's not happening.

And, at this point, I don't think it's going to matter. they aren't going to fix this. They have had plenty of opportunities since Bex's half hearted "Sorry for the inconvenience" post to just say:

Hey, this is a problem for you, we get that. We're working on a solution.

But they haven't. So, if that's the way it is, I'll just go ahead and order my XB1x early, and find something else to kill my time until Borderlands 3 comes out, because this isn't the game it used to be, and with decisions like this, I don't see how it's going to get back to that game.
This move by GGG would seem to make shaping the atlas strategy much less attractive? Anyone notice what effect it has had on the price of sextants?

Sextant were dirthly cheap, at least at league, 3 days ago (then I stopped playing). But I don't think this changes aimed to make "atlas shaping" less atractive. They have only one purpose. To make "standard" less attractive or, if players are convinced to play standard anyway, to force them to buy new map stash every league. It's no coincidence that they changed the atlas right now. Already at the stage of development they were aware that the new league would be crappy, so they decided to force tribute from everyone who would stay with the game playing the "standard".
