please end mystery boxes (loot boxes, glorified gambling)

( if it was, I would agree with you ... even though I would think that letting children have a card to buy whatever they want on the internet isn't really something smart ).
GGG's license agreement isn't a media classification scheme, it's just them protecting themselves. I'm not sure what precisely the term is where you live, but what I'm talking about where I live would be to have games with gambling in them given R18+ ratings.

If by card you mean credit/debit card, I don't think kids need one in order to buy this stuff. I use Paypal, which at least didn't used to need a credit card assigned to the account, though I'll happily admit it's been quite a few years since I've tried that anywhere. Steam players can use Steam credit, which can be bought with cash. Other methods here on GGG's site I'm not familiar with, but it sounds like there are non-card options there too.

I'm not sure of the other ways to use paypal and definitely don't know how steam works.
I believe that responsible parents don't leave heaps of money available to their kids to be used that easily this way though.

Regarding classification scheme ... idk, it has been very clear from the very start that PoE wasn't a game for children.
I don't see any "R18+" anywhere, maybe there aren't and maybe it would be better if there were some, I guess I can agree with that much.

Depends on whether your definition of "bad" is limited to a short-term profitability scale. People don't like to see their favorite company engage in predatory behavior, is that really such a surprise?

Uh... yes? Companies aren't our friends per se. It also doesn't seem to be about short-term profitability, considering how long the boxes have been around and how well GGG is doing.

Like you, I am a pragmatist. I know that businesses are supposed to make money.

Incidentally, PR and branding are both huge money makers. I'm sure you know this aleady. Both are highly relevant to this discussion.

Change is always unknown. Why risk it when you already have a clearly profitable system going on and practically no competitors to one-up?

In that case, why attempt to pursue ethical business at all?

After all, as you accurately point out, there are no guarantees that ethical business practices will lead to more profit. And if the money lost to bad PR can reasonably be estimated to be less than the money gained through exploitation, then the business is fulfilling its raison d'etre and therefore all is good.

That is what you are saying, is it not? By all means clarify and correct me if I am mischaracterizing your statement.

Because there are mystery boxes, we do sometimes get free mtx.... I would not like that to change personally.

Because casinos&co give people the illusion that they are going to make money out of it.

Btw, specify 'heavily regulated' please.

If you can do that then you dont have a problem.

I guess you mean that in this case you have a gambling problem + a problem of acknowledging it.
Both might come together often I guess, I don't really know.

purest forum of a money grab

? really...i get that some people have poor impulse control and go full on with the gambling aspect BUT it's not a money grab, there is NOTHING in them that YOU need...just cosmetic fluff which you can purchase at real cost at a later date.

YOU can also contact support and have them disable your ability to buy them.

For such a "money grab" they are doing a pretty poor job of it, nothing is exclusive to those boxes, there is nothing in them that is required by you to play the game and they are pretty damn cheap.
