Are there any games with a worse trade system?
" Almost forgot about all that - reminded me of guys who would constantly drop a charm to show off and pretty sure I saw one guy do it just a tad too close to someone he thought was afk. " It's strange, the trade window from D2 and PoE are practically identical.... But man... it makes me sad that so many people posting on the forums (or in social media in general) seem to have never developed critical thinking skills.... Yep, totally over league play.

" Ragnarok was a fun games, and going to those marketplaces created by real people (with custom shop names and such) was really cool, if not as convenient as having an AH. Also, you could create a separate account, have a merchant there and play with your main at the same time. |

Phantasy Star Online
The only way to transfer items from one player ( character ) to another was to drop it on the ground, but all items that were dropped just showed up as colored boxes with no text on them. In that regard, the variance of color was few ..and the types of items that could encompass a box color type varied, so you woudln't know if you were dropping a fully maxed out MAG ( combat pet ) or a low level armor piece. So to trade ....two players would stand on opposite sides of a room ...drop their item ..then at the same time run to the other's item and pray to lord photon jesus that they actually dropped what they said they did. Dram, it was nothing but drama and scams. ----- That said ...this game's Trade system should be renamed to a Tirade system. There is exactly zero valid reason to have a 3rd party site compared to an in game version of the exact same thing; or at the very least going with something slightly more modern ..like an auction house. Chris just doesn't want one, because he ....like his fellow superfans ...need trading to be convoluted, archaic, and painful ..because it allows the super dedicated and super predatory players to take advantage of everyone else in order to gain wealth and power. The entire game is setup to be a sandbox for a select few of gamers ...while everyone else is just there to feed into their economy to sustain it for said few. It's no different than a stock market, you need the vast majority of normal people to feed into it, or it doesn't function at all. It's made so that only the real players can take advantage of it. I mean, just look as the challenge system and every report they've put out about it's results. Less than 3% of the playerbase even gets to the 24 challenge mark, and 24% even get to 12. They could change it to be way more realistic and less poignant to the entire playerbase, but they wont. It's designed for the very few high rollers of the game, and so they're the only ones that get it's rewards. |

all of them, that i'm aware of! well... maybe eve online, as an exception. never played that (or alot of games these days in general), so wtf do i kno, but...
1. i like the Laissez-faire flavored koolaid that GGG's splashed all over this trade system shit. theres a good breakdown of their intentions/vision created released basically during poe's inception (google dev diaries i think (talks about 'fuck gold,' AH shit too i think; [Removed by Support] if i wanna get curious and find profits where others arent looking, fine. if i wanna manipulate prices bc fuck it why not - 'all good!' If i wanna give a noob some shit so nice he doesnt even kno what he has yet, so be it - no charge. if i wanna list a price way outside of +/-3 (or 3mil) standard deviations from the mean... 'sweet.' its a game. mapping and shits fun - i get it. when it comes to tediously stalking thing(s) price(s) tho... fucking boresville, right? ppl jus get lazy really, in poe (really, from lack of PROPER pc'ing). macro, AI/ML tools, (expand large list out as much as ya'd like), arent really 'proper' outside of shit like... div cards or other static shit. if someone disagrees, lemme kno so i can throw ur account name in seller field on search form, for some nice 'whoop!' action. some dude on TV (prolly CSPAN or some shit - idfk) said it best:'sry for your decision making skills, poorest of exiles... here, take this: compliments of tarkleigh: +3whoGaf boots with a mod which 4/5 dentists recommend (+2 mana - no mvspd, as usual). for a limited time, refer a friend and get 3 alchs each!' dont quote me on that. coulda been Obeezie when he was in office. ive eaten a fuck ton of crayola crayons (red ones taste da besh), so if someone's read this far... well thats just swell (you nod, and agree (dont lie)) 2. albino rhoa feathers... nuff said 3. therm- nvm... cyall trolled Fox News in an interview... wound up famous. thx for the virility humans! https://youtu.be/hkK-gI7xAP4 "...I'm one of the heroes." lol Last edited by Blank_GGG#0000 on Oct 7, 2018, 6:49:59 PM

I understand the sentiment but if you ask whether I can live with it, I would say yes.
Because in my personal experience I don't have that big of a problem if players don't respond. For high value items, they almost always respond quickly. For less than 3c item, I just spam the whisper message. It takes no less than 2 min in total. If you want to buy something in bulk, yes it's annoying, but for nomal purchase, really, no problem. In thinking on the OP a bit more, I've come to a conclusion:
This is a game that desperately doesn't want a Marketplace, but knows that it can't function without one. It's a game that knows as soon as players can easily and quickly fulfill the complex requirements and synergies that their build uses, through easy and pain-free trade, the game itself will "break" somewhat. It will become a game that must use other means to slow down player progression through new content. After all, "Retention" is what spurs on the big MTX sales. So, there's a compromise - Outside applications that can serve as a communications go-between for buyers and sellers of in-game items. But, the "difficulty" of forced person-to-person trade must be maintained, because GGG knows it can't survive an efficient, easy-to-use, in-game Marketplace System. Any actual usable in-game aystem would have to have built-in inefficiencies, else it'd be too powerful. |

" QFT. Never has a more apt and concise statement about the state of trade in POE ever been written. POE Serenity Prayer: GGG, grant me the serenity to accept the RNG I cannot change, the courage to challenge any unbalanced content, and the wisdom to avoid the forums. " A very thoughtful and interesting response. I appreciate it. I agree with you the devs feel this way.. I just wonder if its true. Did you know there are two main theories for how the keyboard developed? The first is that it is a mechanical limitations, i.e people were typing too fast so that the QWERTY keyboard was developed to slow them down so the keyboards stopped breaking. The other is that it was helpful to telegraph operators who found the alphabetical system uncomfortable. But either way, we all type on a system designed for a reason that no longer makes any sense at all. After incursion, and seeing the loot that dropped from the architect, I wonder if the fears of the trade system being too overpowered are based on old logic that no longer makes any sense at all. I suspect the GGG developed have dug in their heals about issues that no longer exist. They fight phantom problems for outdated reasons with obsolete solutions. After all these years, we really arent that different than the East Commons tunnels. On my server there was a website where the people could list their items for sale, so you could look for someone in the tunnel. We have replaced the tunnels with hideouts but otherwise, its the same system 20 years later. But I appreciate the interesting and thoughtful response Mork. |

Just remainding you that most other games have account/character item binding. Somehow i doubt you'd want it in PoE.
Also, i bet you'd call BDO and TESO pretty bad in that regard too. However, i call a trade system bad if it negatively affects the game's balance and economy, and AH is a great way to ruin both. |
