Oh well. At least I can stop thinking about buying new packs.
It was an overall fine ride while it lasted. |

I guess now we will find out how many supporter pack purchases fall into the "I love this game and want to support my indie developer" category and how many are in the "I want to buy what you are selling here" category.
For me I'd say it has been about 50% of each. I wanted a bunch of stash tabs in the beginning, but once I got all the stash space I need the rest have been the good will for may indie developer type. I'm honestly not willing to spend money on aesthetic stuff alone. Not to mention that MTXs are seriously overpriced. |

" same here, my first supporter pack was for beta access (2.0 beta) and for some tabs now I have all the tabs I could want so buying a support pack as of late was more less a donation with some goodies I dont see any any key!

You know, I was there for the SWG mass exodus. If you want to talk betrayal, there's really no better example. Not content with their niche market the company redesigned the dynamic in an attempt to mimic the giant at the time (WoW) and instead sealed its fate.
Given that its essentially become an iconic reference for gaming failure, I can't help but be annoyed with all the doomsayers. It didn't take a massive chinese corp to ruin a blue chip ip. Whether it was SoE or Lucasarts that ultimately pushed for NGE and the CU I don't know. But SoE wasn't a tiny company and already had a parent company of its own before that. I played both Champions Online and City of Heroes. Champions Online was bought by Perfect World, a chinese based company and is still running to this day. City of Heroes/Villains was shut down in 2012. I left Champions Online over losing interest, not because new management dramatically changed...anything. I also tried Wildstar, and boy was it strange getting a SWG NGE/CU empty world experience in a completely different ip. From what I've read, it was poor end game design that really did it in. Given my own experience, if one player's minor mistake instantly led the entire group to fail, I would have left too. I still have a League of Legends Account, and while I also lost interest in that some time ago, I still love the model that one pays for cosmetics or convenience, not to win. While the currency system has changed a bit since I was most active, I still think of Riot Games postively, unlike EA despite my love for the Mass Effect series. But more importantly, I remember that there was a time where EA was a respected name and the games put out with that seal of approval was quality. One thing I've learned in my history of gaming is that money matters. The servers and the salaries require CONSTANT revenue. Just because a massive corp invests in a small studio it doesn't mean the sky is falling but merely to be on guard, which the most "passionate" of the playerbase is always feeling regardless. You can't expect a company to grow without funding - it seems that gamers tend to be blinded by their passions and forget basic economics. Yep, totally over league play.

" me neither. what is a mass? age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass I find it unlikely that the game itself will be affect by this. There's just no real reason that Tencent should mess with a winning formula. Thus, no mass exodus. What I do worry about it that the profitability of GGG could be affected by what I posted above. Then if GGG starts loosing money Tencent might step in and actively ruin the game. In the end I think that GGG will have to lower the prices of their MTXs and just live with lower margins. It shouldn't be the end of the world.... of Wraeclast. |
