So, you say you talked to other companies that tencent has shares in and they didn't have a large effect on them... that is because they do not have a majority share in any other game!!!

wut? Tencent owns like 90% of Riot
wew look at all this knee jerking. They said nothing will change, they are still their own company.

Chris Wilson made Business decision and anybody of us would have made!

Wrong. No way in hell I would have made that decision. I'm not some kid who is ignorant about how things work. I was working in engineering tech companies before Chris was born. I worked most of those years as a consultant/contractor. I know how these things work. If it's only about money, there are a lot of ways to make money. I wouldn't have done it, and I know a lot of companies I've worked for wouldn't have done it either.

Everyone here who is now refusing to support the game because of this decision are to only blame themselves if the game dies. I mean you refuse to support a game means less opportunities for the game to advance... Don't matter who's behind it.

Now its time for people like you, to show double the support than before ;)

HAHAHAHAH

+1

It seems 99% of people here don't know yet that anything they buy this days they are ALREADY sending money to China.

You know that there are many people in here, that are buying almost nothing out of China? You know that there exist some people who try to buy locally as good as possible?

Dont presume that everyone is like yourself...

Locally? So, you live in NZ? Wonderful!

Hey guys, did you hear? Everything will be OK because Chris said so.

Whew.

(what good is "being your own company" if a foreign interest owns 80% of it?)

My future $ would go to China?

How many products that are made in China do you think you buy on a monthly basis?
Did you ever check?

Again, for the Nth time, i get the healthy concern about the future of PoE as a game and GGG as a company, and i have those concenrs myself, but takes like these aren't helpful in the slightest.

I am well aware since more "made in China" shit broke at my house the other day (a caulk gun if you must know - the god damn steel broke by the rivets near the handle). However I don't necessarily blame China for this at all. In fact most of the blame - and profit (my money) - goes to the companies outsourcing to China. The Chinese laborers also need to eat, and I would be OK with Grinding Gear Games outsourcing to China (not sure what but let's have a hypothetical), but the difference here is that they are now owned by a Chinese company and not the other way around. Most of the profit (my money) will now be going to GGG's Chinese overlords so yeah maybe my comments aren't helpful but really who gives a shit since my comments, your comments, and everyone's comments will have little impact on what transpired. None of this is 'helpful' and the deal is done. Some of us are here to express our disapproval - which again does not f'n matter.

I guess I should give people credit for being more naive than I imagined...

Chris doesn't own GGG anymore. He sold his ownership. Chris absolutely did what was best for Chris, and it's possible Chris did what he thought was best for GGG. However, GGG was "acquired" by Tencent. Chris still runs GGG, but Tencent now has the power to change that. And they now have the power to dictate the direction of PoE, even if Chris doesn't agree. What part of "acquired" don't you understand? Don't be fooled by Chris' attempt to smooth this over with the community.

Sure, in the short term nothing will change. It's the long term that some people are worried about, since Tencent has a bad reputation for turning games towards the Pay-to-Play model side of F2P.

We don't know where PoE will be years from now, but we DO know that Tencent has the authority to trump Chris and make those calls now.

They are unlikely to 'trump' decisions made by a team that has a great track record of growing their market share and delivering high quality content - this is what makes them attractive to investors.

Tencents are a multinational conglomerate, they will look for synergy across their businesses/portfolio to streamline and drive further growth - most likely investing into marketing and allowing the GGG development team to do what they do best!

You speak as if this is a betrayal by Chris and GGG, and imo that is not the situation - the reality is that GGG need investment to grow and take the game to the next stage... i.e. version 4.0

I think this huge investment will make GGG stronger, more sustainable and allow them to continue creating great content. Change is part of any business - you cant afford to stand idle.

Lets be clear, this was not a hostile takeover.

We have been approached by many potential acquirers over the last five years, but always felt that they didn't understand Path of Exile, or that they had other agendas (like signing users up to their services). Tencent's agenda is clear: to give us the resources to make Path of Exile as good as it can be.
