Y'all are ranting like you have Chris's business experience, saying " Oh China! Bad move!".
It's so easy to point fingers, and shame others b ut I bet if you were in his shoes, your version of PoE would have not left the garage.
GGG, congrat ulations on this "merger", and I'm very happ y to see that you are going to be well funded. This means cheape r MTX down the r oad sin ce money will be more available, i hope!
Than ks for being so transparent too, I believe in you because you make your intentions clear.
Let me know if you get the hidden message! :D
Your assumption is that this is a merger? No, this is an acquisition. Big, big difference. Unfortunately the developers will soon feel the heat when they are pressured to deliver on any request made by the man who writes their checks. It's only a matter of time.
Honestly, when I first wrote the post I said Merger / Acquisition.
What I won't pretend to know are the differences / basic understanding of these concepts.
All in all I am just hopeful. Maybe precedence has been set that these things don't work out all the time. But I believe that PoE is not a typical game, and that I hope it may break all our lowly expectations of this business decision.
And even if it doesn't...I think GGG had a great streak while it lasted.
Change is scary, but it doesn't always have to be bad.
well said.

Everyone here who is now refusing to support the game because of this decision are to only blame themselves if the game dies. I mean you refuse to support a game means less opportunities for the game to advance... Don't matter who's behind it.

It seems 99% of people here don't know yet that anything they buy this days they are ALREADY sending money to China.
You know that there are many people in here, that are buying almost nothing out of China? You know that there exist some people who try to buy locally as good as possible?
Dont presume that everyone is like yourself...
Locally? So, you live in NZ? Wonderful!

I appreciate the transparency but there is no way I'm funding some Chinese firm.
Well, the acquisition was public, so Chris had no choice but to try to explain it here. So no real "transparency", just the buy-out and attempted reassurance that nothing will change.
But perhaps Chris and GGG forget that many of us here buy supporter packs because we want to help and be a part of an indie developer and its game. Now with Tencent owning GGG... not happening anymore. I certainly don't need all of those MTXes, so I will simply stop supporting them.

Actually it really does matter who's behind it. =p
My time and money are valuable. If I think the game is going to head into a place I won't like, I'd be extremely foolish to invest either into it. I will give PoE a break, go back to work developing my own project, and in a couple of years, if it looks like Wilson has managed to keep his word, against all odds, I'll come back and reinvest my time and cash.

Indeed. We must continue to throw our money at them, regardless of whether they do something we can't deal with. <snicker>

And here I was after years of trying to get into the game like I was with Diablo 2; finally there, bought a supporter pack, and now this. I have never seen a major publisher acquisition go well for an independent developer. I wish you guys all the best, but I hope you have good lawyers.

spare the sarcasm, if this game goes under because of its playerbase, it will lead to an unprecedented occurrence in the video game industry. If this is how you lot want GGG to be remembered, congratulations, some of us don't want to see that becoming a reality either.

Actually Chris would be the person to blame if you believe much of their revenue was from a community choosing to support an independent dev studio. He's the one who has changed that arrangement.

So, you say you talked to other companies that tencent has shares in and they didn't have a large effect on them... that is because they do not have a majority share in any other game!!!
