Game is ruined after the returning to Lionseye Watch

You have a grand total of six life nodes on your tree, resulting in less than 1,500 life total, your resistances are hovering around zero or below, your main attack skill has barely one direct damage support (which is Faster Attacks), most of your gems have not been leveled, you have no defensive skills at all, and your flasks are appropriate for somewhere around Act 4.

Sorry, but this is most definitely a problem on your side. If you want some help with your build, feel free to ask; but don't blame the game for killing you when you're doing nothing to prevent it.

I use what my wife and I find. We do a team of self-found and only trade between ourselves.

Explain to me how I am supposed to have better gear, when I can not find any?

You missed the life-leach skill points

Ok so you obviously dont want to follow any guide which is fine but how about following some simple logic here.

You lack life cause you dont spend points into it yet you complain about having no life.
Also you can mastercraft life on your gear.
Or sinds you are not ssf you can look to buy some leveling gear with life/resist.

Defeating act 5 will give you -30% all res yet you do nothing to improve that.

I am trying to use suggestions from the forums. For the build I am working on I need a three red and one green 4 linked item.

As stated above, how am I supposed to get those items when they do not drop, nor do I have enough currency to craft.

As stated in the opening post, POE "used to be" fun. Since I pay to be entertained, nor my wife or I are buying supporter packs until the game gets its fun value back.

It seems the developers have created a game that excludes casual players. My wife and I both work, we play POE in the evenings to unwind, relax and spend time with each other.

The developers have ruined POE for casual self-found players.

The problem with any difficulty curve is that your character can cope with the difficulty as long as its 'above the curve'. The curve gradually increases, and as soon as your character dips below that curve, suddenly everything seems way too hard. Attacks you could survive before are now slightly too strong, but slightly too strong is all it takes to kill you.

It appears you are not listening to me.

There seems to be an issue between the common monsters, and the blue bosses. Not even the high ranking bosses.

I can slay the white name common all day long. A common boss comes in, two hit kills me.

Then there is the issue with items dropping in solo self found.

My wife and I play together, and we only trade between each other. The color sockets in the number of links we need are not dropping. Between the two of us we do not have enough currency to craft what either one of us need.

How are we supposed to progress in the game when we are not finding what we need, can not craft what we need, and are getting two hit, sometimes one hit killed?

None of this started until after the new acts were put in.

When we finished normal and went to the next difficulty, things were fine. We were able to make progress.

After the new acts, progress grinds to a halt.

Personally I don't care whether you buy any supporter packs or not. But in this particular situation problem is on your side, not GGG. I’m casual player too, also got work and play PoE in the evenings. In addition, at the beginning of each league until the end of the campaign, I practically do not trade and I rely solely on what I find myself, as campaign does not require any trading.

For instance, in this league I was at level 76 on day 3, traded only 4 times, to buy some slightly better gear, which I might skip as well and it would not change much. Then I quitted, as I just did not like whole pokemon league. But hey, I had a fully developed character with 3 ascends (excluded "uber lab"), 4200 life and DPS capable to farm yellow maps. All this in semi-SSF style. So in this particular case it is not GGG fault.

Yes, they screwed whole league, I have to give them that, but this has nothing to do with the "campaign", which apparently surpasses you.

POE was fine before the new acts were added.

What changed, difficulty wise, after the new acts were added?

Yes, GGG changed something in the formula that screwed the game up. So it is on them.

I am glad you have the time to play that many hours to get to level 76 on day three. My wife and I play for around an hour a day, maybe two or three hours on the weekend.

If you're getting one-shot or two-shot in Act 6 by anything other than the Brine King fight, then it's your build and it's a solvable problem.

Others have repeatedly mentioned the passive tree as a major problem because you have almost no life nodes on it. That's a huge issue, absolutely huge, and if you don't address it then it doesn't matter what gear you and your wife's characters wear because your characters will keep getting one-shot and two-shot over and over and over again.

Take a look at the SSF ladders (hardcore and softcore, league and non-league) to get a better sense of what SSF can do. You'll find that SSF builds can do anything. Click on some characters / player accounts and review passive trees for characters that look like those of you and your wife for some ideas about what functional passive trees look like.

Once you solve your characters' build issues, then hopefully you find the game much more fun. :)
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?

This was not a problem until after the new acts were added.

Before the new acts, my wife and I could play to 3/4 - 7/8 way through the last difficulty before we ran into problems.

Now, it is after returning to Wraeclast.

What changed with the game difficulty after the new acts were added?

Rather than skill points I am using items to boost life. I use whatever items I can find to get more life.

Sounds like you are having a really bad run of rng.

Usually I can find enough stuff to get by (yes, first char to maps is the worst by far)
You need to be really carefull with the crafting though since amount of currency just doesn't support any fancy stuff at all. Like trying to 5L a chest.. a big big no no! Can't even chance it.
Even 4L and item can be tricky.
Sometimes you might need to skip an upgrade due to the fact that it's great but you can't recolour it.. stuff it in the stash to be used later.

Every rare item and piece of currency needs to picked up and sold... every bit helps.
