This only seems to happen when in fullscreen, so you can workaround it by deleting production_Config.ini in the Path of Exile documents folder. If you switch back to fullscreen in-game, then it will crash.

I also found that disabling sharing in Geforce Experience (2.0) worked around it as well, and allowed me to run the game in fullscreen. It could be a conflict with certain kinds of overlays, as that option enables and disables an overlay in recent drivers.

It works mate thx. Windowed fullscreen working well.
^^^ does not work for me ... windowed fullscreen and windowed still get the client crash

Right click on pathofexile then go to the path of exile folder -> Right click on PathOfExile_x64.exe and run as administrator.

I just started the game this way and got rid of this error message.
It won't work if you are creating a shortcut on your desktop be sure to run it from Program Files (x86) => Grinding Gear Games => Pathofexile folder.

I fixed my issue like this: install this dx11.1 platform update for w7:

Same error here

W10, amd cpu/gpu

changing to windowed fullscreen and rclicking starting shortcut as admin (standalone client) worked for me
Running the 64-bit .exe seems to have fixed the problem for me as well.

EDIT: Nope, nevermind. It hasn't.
