Cheap and definetly not optimized, it's just the best I got in ssf, before I finally wanted a 6L and a useful sword... need to reroll the chest for 100+ life etc some day.



5.5k life at lvl 87, with three more 5% nodes I'll have 6k+ at 90.
Tree, 156% life now, 171% at 90.

I wear a belly when I push for way more, 7.5k or something like that. :)

Well there is a few things not to be mixed up.

Having some very odd oneshots is a different issue and some of them even extent to CI as well, they are generally more an issue for melee vs. ranged because as a melee player you usually are close to things you kill and also don't have a safety buffer between you and enemies, which means even a surprise Vaal DD instantly kills you. A random Bameth Spawn is almost unavoidable for a melee you basically have to pray that it doesn't chain well.

The current life amounts are enough for most of the good situations and instead of handing out enough HP to survive the few stupid situations, those situations should go. Again there are DDs in the game that take upwards of 30k HP and you cannot hand out enough life to survive that.

Enemy attacks have to be either avoidable or survivable. And of course CI should get a bit more freedom on this, but should have drawbacks for being more oneshot resistant, which they currently lack.

The rest has not much to do with life vs. CI. If life needs changes, it is not the amount but how you get there.

So while it is obvious that GGG fixes some of those things (they wouldn't have removed shotgunning otherwise), they also often bring back the very same mechanic. Just look at revenants, they again can shotgun and it is incredible hard to avoid the full barrage for a melee.
Life is technically better than energy shield .

One weakness I note is that your Life leech is pretty small however, only .33% from your sword that I can see. So while you do have a high hp, your sustain look a little small. And while you're a block build you also don't appear to have any method to gain fortify.

Just pointing out that while you have decent life I wouldn't say that is too amazing, in a game where melee tends to *need* to be amazing to survive compared to range.

I'm not trying to defend my build here (though I enjoy it).
I just showed my shit equipment to point out that it's BS that you need Belly or some extraordinary skilltree to get to 6k life.

These life/ES discussions are just full of those BS statements.
Some people seem to assume CI get their 15k+ ES for free, not an "investment", neither in gear nor in passives. But for life, easy things like 5k/6k life are advocated as impossible tasks.

The truth is somewhere in the middle.
Yes, ES is a bit too strong. But it's not "twice as good" as life, even when it gets twice as much "life".
Fix it? Remove this stupid 20% ES ring mastercraft. Do something about VP/GR. Done.
For life? Grant a tiny bit more life/notable, like 2%. Done.
For melee? Get rid of volatile. Tune down some monster damage a bit.

I have to agree there.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
