I'd mostly fault it on GGG balancing the game with the amounts of ES in mind. I wouldn't say we should powercreep further, instead balance the ES down to life's level, and make hits more reasonable.

Also, defenses against physical damage are a thing. :V If anything, Evasion is kinda shafted, since unless you have some wacky LC/Kintsugi or ToH action going on, you're going to die from one shots.

And immunities... How stupid and lazy this is, I don't even. Why is Atziri still immune to Shock/Burn while you can cheese her with poison is beyond me.

They've got this weird idea of people being able to farm different bosses, with different builds, so that when you have poison, you can farm the other two! And then trade fragments for the Shaper! Yay, great idea!

Too bad they forgot about this when they made the challenges, which requires you to kill those... lol. I mean, overall the idea isn't bad, and I kinda like it, but then again I want to complete my challenges on my own, and not have to buy them... (not that I'm using poison, but I can feel for people who do).

Oh, and also that trade system isn't viable for such trades.

The fact that you get so much dmg with most life builds is the only thing that makes high maps and shaper in HC interesting. If i want it easy i simply play ES or D3. And the amount of ES isnt a problem at all - the only problem is leech and vaal skills.

I rather have one-shot mechanics and insane boss dmg compared to another paper boss like Malachai or Domi.

Problem is 2 things: stun and Alchemist.

ES's main drawback of stun is no longer issue.

Back in the day every CI build was either using Chayula or pathing all the way down to Unwavering. This was a good tradeoff for getting a build with 10k hitpoints plus.

Now we don't need that.

Another issue is Alchemist Witch nodes right at the start and taken by every ES build with a shield.

Because a 10k+ ES with 75/75 blocks is obviously a fucking NO BRAINER.

Not fucking with ES? From what i can tell they thoroughly fucked up the concept of energy shield quite miserably already.
I faintly remember a dev stating somewhere in 2013 "energy shield is not suppose to be blue life", yeah, that shit turned out alright.

It's not even blue life, it's better than life because all the ES nodes are clustered together and have high values, so you are far more point efficient. This means that you can spend far more points into things like utility or damage. This was ok when there were actual downsides like stun and status ailments, but not anymore.

Not only that but if you compare base life values vs energy shield:

38 + 12*100 + 8*75 [8 pieces of average 75 life, this is a realistic scenario] + 200 [400 strength] ~ 2000 base life

With a 200% increased life you end up with 6k base life.

ES on the other hand:
100+ belt, 750+ chest, 400+ shield, 350+ helm, 150 boots, 150 gloves, 300 discipline, 120 rings+amulet

You end up with: ~2300 base ES without endgame gear
Now you add the 1.15 multiplier to that value because of CI and you are at ~2600 ES

If you invested both amount in the tree (200%) you are allready at ~7800 ES, but wait now you factor in INT bonus [lets say 400 same as STR above] so in fact you get a free 80% increased energy shield also.
Now let's be budget and only factor in 15% increased maximum energy shield on amulet (no elreon %es crafts on rings) and you have 295% increased energy shield instead.
So you end up with ~10k base energy shield without that much of a investment.


In my opinion INT gives too much of a free multiplier, 400 strength gave us 600 life with 200% life increase while 400 int on the above mentioned scenario gave us ~2k ES.

Add in the fact you can't craft 20% life on your rings while ES can have 60%+ es from rings and amulets with Elreon+Int.

The addition of "Crystal Belt" and no crocodile skin belt with 200 life pretty much summed GGG's thoughts on life vs es for me.

New items are great but how does vanguard compare to crystal belt :c.


On a more serious note. ES gear either needs to be nerfed or the passives nerfed. 15K es boss montage is retarded. We don't need 15k life builds running around too(granted i've seen a youtuber doing it, but thats standard aka 1k life kaoms). The fact that vaal pact allows the es to be restored instantly where as vaal pact on life pales in comparison is a point of concern. There needs to be more leech rate over the tree, where with investment you can be "vaal pact-like".
