Buff life.

My suggestions:

1. Nerf vaal pact/remove instant leech in the game and massive burst of defenses. (like flasks)
- Obviously if your game is based around suddenly gaining massive damage reduction in multiple areas at a push of a button (lol vinktors/Rumi/taste of hate/ect) and instantly leeching your HP globe to full. The only way to kill you is BS.

2. Since above is nerfed you can reasonably design fights around scaling fights and punishing players for not doing certain things. For example make a one shot attack scale in damage instead the more times you hit by it would be reasonable with above changes. Most builds that properly use dodging/mechanics can take more hits/fight longer relative to their DPS. If you go high dps instead then you can make the fight end sooner but have less mechanics to fix your mistakes or less times when you can make a mistake.
It allows GGG to design crazy fights without the punishment being "instant death".

3. Add more gimmicks to life/es/evasion so there is different types. So you can bake some armor nodes into the life nodes, or make a section of the life nodes the "take a shit ton less damage from crit" or other hybrid mechanics. Have people choose the type of addition defense they want as oppose to "just have a shit ton of the base". So ES builds can focus on recharging it fast with gear + tree, or having a shit ton of it only with drawbacks or ignore/lower the downsides for moderate stats.

4. Do some magic on life/ES values or something, I'm not a math wizard.

Life of melee chars at the left side of the tree requires about 15-20% buff.

I like the prisus suggestion of embedding them in melee damage nodes and such. Probably rather 1-3% and spreaded all over the place than a few 4% nodes - to make it strictly unprofitable for others such as life-bow builds to take them even if they are close.

The VP & instant leech story is a different one. Life & ES chars both use it. If you wanna remove instant leech then reflect has to go (not a bad thing) and life vs. ES still and especially then requires rebalancing from zero.


So in a first step armoured life charackters should be brought to where they belong, the tankiest thing you can build. They have enough downsides already. To be clear they have all the downsides already, right now even the least tanky build there is due to acrobatics for evasion and op ES.



But the problem of life is not only that. The major problem is that you can use alot of tricky things and abuse alot of mechanics being ES and there is basically nothing of any interest for life builds. Hence people even started to truly believe ES should be the tier 1 builds and life the beginner thing and support that argument in discussions.

The only real buff that life needs, is gear.
life items can have only ONE life roll. Aside from puny life bonus from strength suffix, you can get more life on your item than T1 life roll offers. If there were 2-3 life roll on gear (for example, a mod for up to 25% increased maximum life, and a hybrid mod from something like "60 life and 4 life regen per second".... well, then you actually COULD roll pretty high life on your items, and could match to ES far closer (with toptier gear).

Yeah, thats a great idea, not only let them life players be punished for the time being inferior but lets create new gear so that all people who already invested into top tier life gear gotta start from zero and lets have all their values be destroyed.

The ES guys then can switch their still valueable ES gear to new tier1 life gear so everything will be fine.

Top-tier? Lol, this so-called "top-tier" gear is barely 15% better, than common life gear, while for ES, the difference is 50% or even more.

Didnt it already happened with Essences, btw? A well-rolled chest with onslaught on hit, or 10% AoE, or 15% cold convert will be far better than any existing top-tier life gear on stadard. Do GGG cares? No! Standard will always be dumpster league, and if you will care about it, you'll never make PoE better.

The new essence rolls are more a sidegrade than a clear upgrade esspecially cause of the fact that they wont be put on mirror items that easily for the reason that more and more things in the game make mirroring armour pieces uninteresting:

chest: cant change colours => very bad
gloves/helmet/boots: no vaal orbs and no labyrinth enchantments => non-mirror item with enchantment or vaaled oftently better.

Double life rolls would make every old piece of life gear 100% useless instead.

I haven't done the high-end content yet, but I intend to. And I intend on doing it with a lot of movement speed, bc why try to survive 1shots at all? Never get touched (by primary/mega attacks). But yeah, this type of thread and my own inference about damage levels is kinda why I'm doing that.

Can't exactly buff life just like that because then there would be no incentive not to go life for them instant pots. It has to have a drawback compared to ES. The problem is that non-telegraphed One-Shot-Mechanics negate that edge completely in late game since you "only" need to make sure you have as much EHP to survive that one unlucky hit. Another thing that is completely negated is armour with those kind of hits.

That's what really needs to be addressed. Flat out life buffs will just lead to a new path of life nodes and wouldn't really fix anything.

It already is path of life nodes ESPECIALLY this expansion even with a huge amount life you're going to die like the wind blows on you and peww splat dead.
