I would be interesting to see what would happen if ggg buffed life nodes back to what they used to be all those years ago.
The issue is pretty much exclusively the tree . right now the life build tree is effectively dominated by the need to path to a life node cluster "Sure those bow nodes are 20% better than those projectile nodes .. but the projectile nodes are next to life so fuck them bow nodes...." is effectively the ruling train of thought And it demands everyone branching to same god damn life nodes on the same bloody paths for every freaking build you physically cant skip any life nodes. atleast with ci there are so god damn many of them that i can choose to omit the eva es or the armor es or the pure es nodes for one of the other depending my fancy. ill get to 300% es without trying at level 80 anyway. 350% probably at level 90... if i reaaaaaaly want or i can get to level 90 as mara and have maybe 240% life? with a flat life pool that might get to 2200? 2600 if kaoms? vs 900 chest 400 helm 400 shield , 150 - 300 implicit passive 200 boots , 200 gloves 100 belt 40 ammy 80 rings.. oh and 300 - 400 from auras? lol what the fuck? |

I want to agree with the "buff life" train...
But the question I have is "what good would another 2k life be?" If instead of 6k life i ended up around 8K life, what's the difference when the hits coming in are 13-15k+? I still get one shot. Sure it makes red-tier (non-shaper level content) and yellow-tier stuff a little more stress free, but it doesn't really get me anywhere. Players on the southwest side of the tree have to actually invest in some leech effectiveness to be able to sustain hits. The base leech rate for life is pretty balls. If they were to increase the base leech rate for life a bit more, it would be easier for life base builds to sustain a bit better. After sustain is addressed, they then can go into figuring out how to rebalance armor. Eva sucks ass for melee and it always will because you are right next to enemies. Eva works for ranged characters b/c those players will be manually dodging projectiles as well as eva working for them in the background. I don't know why they don't create more dual purpose nodes on the SW side of the tree. Don't just make nodes that give "15% increased melee physical damage". Add "4% increased life" or "15% increased armor" with those types of nodes. This automatically buffs melee-life builds without buffing caster/bow-life builds. I think GGG overthinks stuff alot. Must be pretty boring in New Zealand or something.... |

"The difference is huge. The difference can easily be seen when running variations of map mods that consist of Extra damage, - Max, Vulnerability, Hexproof. I can tell you right now even with 8k life you can get oneshot but volatile in any vulnerability extra damage maps. Most builds though dont have that much life, ids say the average life build has 5.5-6k life with good gear, roughly 150-200~ increased life. You just cant get top life rolls with shit other rolls like you can with ES, you have to have good life with good res, with good armour. The funniest part is how shit Blood Magic keystone still is. Why the fuck is blood magic still only a % increase ? Oh on top of that you just lost your entire mana pool AND now you cant use auras unless you want to reserve all the life you just got. The key stone is soo fucking bad it isnt funny. They should buff all 4% life nodes to 5%, go from there. Harvest sucks! But look at my decked out gear two weeks in!

I think what you need to buff is armor and EV. ES is a great source of mitigation for big hits of all kinds, but armor doesn't do anything against large hits, and evasion isn't reliable enough to do much.

" the only way that would work is if those effected all damage types .. chaos elemental and physical. you can take big hits with armor.. you just need endurance charges out the arse.. and a whole gaggle of other crap.. to a decent armor build physical will almost never one shot the the player . also 10k armor is not decent. 20k with 6 endurance charges and aa is decent. . on the flip side elemental will quite easily one shot a capped res player.. and all that armor does dick where as all that es .. pretty much treats everything equally .. even chaos since lets be realistic if you are es dominated you are either shavs or ci ..... otherwise you are probably just a life build that has to use es gear pieces. |
