Ascendacy Classes looks like a step backwards

Honestly, I am not an fan of the idea of subclasses. I think it takes away from the claim to fame that PoE has which is you can do literally whatever you want to do via pathing in this enormous skill grid. Now, you can do that, but then you have to choose a specialization that other starting classes cannot.

I understand that many of the builds are re-skinned copies of similar builds and I get it that it becomes old. But that doesn't mean rip down what made PoE popular.

I used to describe to friends that PoE has this enormous grid and the only impact your class selection makes is where you start on the grid. Now, I'll say that its only half true and it actually matters what your class selection is so choose wisely. I.E...heading in the direction of any run of the mill arpg.

If GGG wanted to keep sub classes, make all available to all classes. Keep the spirit of free choice alive in this game.

Admittedly, Im a bit...un motivated to participate in the next long league, let alone spend anymore money on PoE because Im getting the feeling its losing its uniqueness.

Lets continue though, NOBODY is FORCING you to USE ASCENDANCIES, from what ive got so far they are NOT mandatory. So you want to use the fire trap on your boots or your searing touch fine use it there you just wont take the notable or you can take it and waste your skill points, you want to run around like a caffeine overdosed hyperactive bloody bastard, do it you just wont have the bonuses of that notable or simple just DONT USE THAT NOTABLE AT ALL.
Nobody is forcing you to use ascendancies just like nobody is forcing you to use support gems. You'd have to be an idiot not to use them though.
