The point is, if you're NOT trying everything within the rules to get things for the lowest price possible, you're doing it WRONG. If you can manage to get people to give up the desired pixels for FREE, even better!
Doesn't that work for real life too? If you're not being a total opportunistic ass in all circumstances, you're doing it wrong?
Or perhaps you forgot that it's real people playing this game, not NPCs.
No. This is a video game. Not IRL, sorry.
In the same way it's ridiculous to compare the 'economies' within the game to IRL ones, the same applies to fake trade.

Ugh, we've been over this. Nobody is saying that what that dude did was illegal, or against rules, or anything. All we are saying is that he is a douchebag. Being safely hidden behind a computer screen when you try to deceive someone does not make you less of one.

If you got arrested for giving 10$ for a 15$ item and running away with it before the cashier could notice, would you plead that you were just bargaining?
LOLOLOL fail logic.
If a cashier charged the wrong amount of money for an item, took the money and let the guy leave, the person in trouble is the cashier, not the guy who got the bargain. The cashier's job is to prevent this from happening, if the cashier fails, its on the cashier 100%. But yah, im sure we have undercover cops at all convenience store monitoring camera feeds in real time to catch evil people like that.
hahahahahaha
That's some nice bit of selective reading you did there. My example was not optimal, that's true. Here's a better way to put it:

ok mate, you want to do a little experiment with it? Go to a shop that has price stickers on items, I want you to pick up 3 expensive items, then I want you to take off the price stickers, take the price stickers off 3 cheaper items and stick then on the expensive ones. Now go to the checkout and attempt to purchase those 3 things you just repriced.
If during this process you start to feel a need to hide this repricing activity from the store security guards, ask yourself why you are feeling the need to do that.
Would that still be the cashier's fault?
If so, I encourage you to try it out as soon as possible.
Also, you should know that forced laughter looks ridiculous in writing.

Surely you are aware that this is not role-playing, it is online gaming. And the Shadow would never stoop that low, he'd go straight for the jugular.

Where I come from, that is still considered theft. The cashier is not held legally accountable unless he was an accomplice and let it happen on purpose.

I know this isn't the biggest scam, but figured I'd let small time traders like myself know what happened. Someone messaged me offering to buy a jewel I had listed on poe.trade for 4 chaos. That seemed weird as I normally list things in odd numbers. I grab it from my stash, throw it in trade for his 4 chaos, and then decide to double check my thread; it's listed for 5 chaos. After I tell the guy that, he just says "for 4c plz" and would have taken it for 4 if I didn't notice.
Long story short : he changed the copy/past poe.trade message to slightly lower than posted price, hoping I would just read the message, assume it was what I had it listed for, and he would save/scam 1 chaos. Keep your eye open on actual posted price/what they send you, people that just want an honest deal tend to say "it's listed for x, how about y?" or something similar.
I counter-offered but he didn't go for it.
Dude, you are using ~b/o which means buyout, a buyout!=a fixed price. the tag for a fixed price is ~price, so u should be open for offers anyway if u use that buyout tag!
source: http://poe.trade/html/tags.html
but ye nice "SCAM"

Surely you're aware this is an online ARPG. Action ROLE PLAYING GAME.
Exactly. That's why I say that the ultimate goal while shopping in PoE is to get the item for FREE.

So we are playing on words, then. Ok. It's an ACTION role playing game. Why are you trading instead of killing stuff?
