Death Penalty Adjustment Discussion

i think if ggg remove the exp loss you would see lots of players playing builds that they want and not meta just so they can avoid the one shot deaths or content that seems to hard for their builds.
The Death Penalty SUCKS BALLS.

Why? I just died. To a map crash. Game froze out of nowhere, logged back in, 10% XP lost. Seriously, this needs to be fixed. Either fix the crashes and random lag spikes or remove the death penalty. At lvl 92, it is just retardedly bullshit.
Remove Horticrafting station storage limit.
the disscussion is as old as the game is.

what has changed?

nothing.

i hate the penalty, somewhere in the old days even chris said that this is more like an suboptimal solution and that they are not happy with it but cant come up with something smarter.

no i have no source, too long ago.
Why not have a toggle option when you make the character? Obviously those that toggle it off will be excluded from the ladder. Fair trade to me.

that is a good idea I'm perfectly fine with :D
The current death penalty unfairly penalizes players actively trying to level in the 95-100 range because a single death at those high levels could equate to the loss of multiple days of farming time and many, many ex worth of maps, whereas a death at level 80 might just be 5 minutes of time lost.

Ultimately what this does is pigeon hole players aiming to reach those high levels into playing one out of a tiny number of very safe but incredibly boring builds. GGG is basically encouraging players aiming to reach 100 to suck the fun out of the game by selecting a build that has no risk of death (and hence, no excitement, no tense moments, no room for skill/twitch based gameplay). The severity of the death penalty at these high levels absolutely kills build diversity. The only real challenge is overcoming the boredom and monotony to grind to 100 in a sleepfest build.

At the other end of the spectrum, the current death penalty does absolutely nothing to players who aren't trying to level, such as IIR/IIQ farmers, speed runners, ghostbusters, and characters who have reached level 100. It has such an extremely negative gameplay impact on players who want to reach the highest level but does nothing to the farmers who have the greatest influence on the economy. It also gives a free pass to bots.

A much better death penalty would be a stacking IIR/IIQ penalty (perhaps even global, i.e. affectiving the map/zone itself). Such a penalty might even prevent net gain in most cases of ghostbusting without directly nerfing it.

Never underestimate what the mod community can do for PoE if you sell an offline client.
Make a game that could go toe to toe with Diablo 3 on a fraction of the budget then cater to a bunch of elitist white knights.

- Give choice and then take it away. Build for survivablility or the death penalty will ruin you.
- Throw chaos damage into the mix. Balance even more survivability or the death penalty will ruin you.
- Don't forget to have a very fast build too. Ninety seconds should be plenty of time to get to the next checkpoint STFU and stop your whining.
- Don't sacrifice too much damage trying to get survivability, chaos resist, and speed. Ninety seconds should be plenty...
- Screw minion users not only did we pick the biggest retard on the project to write the AI but we will downscale them to the level of the map. Passive, aggressive, defensive stance? Nah! We will just make them move if you move. Trying to dodge whatever effect? You dumb minions will move with you rather than kill the thing killing you.

GGG is dumb.

This!

All comes back to build balance imo.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

You mean make a game that caters to the original supporters of the game? I mean that was after all the intentions of GGG, aside from creating a "successor to D2"

This game was never designed to go head to head against D3, it has "fanboys" "casuals" and people that love blizzard interested in it. Arguments that suggest otherwise are simply just wrong. The only way to cater to a larger audience in any game is to homogenize the game, something GGG should not do. Theres a reason why games like CoD and Battlefield are successful, they are the same game just rehashed over and over again, but do you see a player like myself playing them, nope.

The choice is still there if you don't care that much about leveling up you can build less survivability, plenty of people do this already in softcore.

What the hell does chaos damage specifically have to do with this? It actually isn't as "rippy" as people make it seem to be only the cloud damage is really scary and that is fairly easy to see.

What checkpoints are you talking about?

Minions need more improvements sure, they've been improving that over time.

Your passive aggressive approach and calling the dev company dumb will do you no good. Your feedback is basically shit. Instead of providing a logical approachable argument you say whatever came to your mind, unfiltered and worded terribly.

You people can complain about this all you want, but this horse has been beaten to death, GGG has done nothing but made leveling even easier in 2.0, I know my highest level character was after 2.0 (also was in tempest)
