There is a HUGE (69 pages) thread already discussing this and more:

Enjoy.

Ahh didn't see that. I'll leave it up to the forum mods if they want me to re-post under that thread, or if we can keep this separate. The core overview is quite different from the starting point of the other thread, so having two probably isn't an issue.

The death penalty is essential to teach people game mechanics and proper character control.
Plus Im sure that there are a lot of people on SC leagues that enjoy the challenge of the game in endgame maps and want to make the best char they can and death penalty is one of the incentives for it/rewards for not dying etc

This is simply not true and really doesn't make any sense. The death penalty doesn't teach anything. It is a simple punishment. The theory of the death penalty is not to teach, it is to try to make it more challenging. That is true for both hard core and soft core leagues. They both have severe death penalties, of course hard core is a much more severe punishment. My position is that PoE is plenty challenging without adding a death penalty in soft core. If a player wants more challenge then they can play the hard core leagues.

Why should you care how other people play the game? What is important is that people play the game and have fun. Everyone doesn't have to love the same thing about this great game. Different people should be able to have fun in their own way. The more people that have fun the more support the game will have and so it is best for you as well as GGG to have a large base of people playing and having fun even if not everyone enjoys the game in the same way.

What makes you think PoE is challenging without a death penalty in softcore?

Why the fuck on earth people can't wait to see what act 4 brings in regards to balance and map changes before reviving a dead thread that was literally just answered I have no idea.

See thats a misconception, GGG should not balance the game around casual players that would appreciate no death penalty (although every arpg i know has one).

GGG should never balance the game around making it more "fun" by not having a penalty so they are more likely to support the game financially, that is what we would call a sellout.

Chris just said the XP penalty was fine, so please for the love of God wait until after act 4 before you try to make arguments that filled that thread with 69+ pages.

I can understand what Chris said about the XP penalty being relevant to the topic but, can't understand how act 4 could possibly be an argument for the XP penalty being something that shouldn't be talked about?

But if my fun is ruined that is ok? Right...
Remember when this used to be Path of Life. With no death penalty for softcore leagues what would be the point of taking even 1 life node. We would all stack damage to the max and if we died who cares we just walk back kill whatever killed us in 1 shot and move on.

Right now there is a balance. I just play softcore because I know that there are some BS deaths that happen and instead of making a forum post I take my xp penalty and move on. When I craft a build tho I take a mixture of damage and life (like most builds) and the reason for that is the death penalty. No death penalty no risk and reward. I for one like having a risk in softcore.

I wish they actually increased the death penalty exp loss make it really hard. Make it more Path of Life. And in hardcore make people lose their stash and delay logouts. Would love to see that. No more checking to see whose tooltip dps is better or who clears faster. It would be who survived.
I need a signature to look legit

You are saying that your fun is ruined because other people are having fun playing in a way that you disagree with? That seems very strange but maybe I'm just misunderstanding?
