I'm Surprised to Find that Melee is Easy

would like to see the passive tree for that build xD. Atm with a 3link leap slam I'm getting 20k dps. I can't get the colors on my chest correct so that I can finish the set up I have in mind as it involves 2 off colors and the lightning coil is stubborn AF
Everything is easy, if you have good gear. Tho, other playstyles are easier than melee, if you have mediocre gear. In the end it's not lack of DPS or defense that will kill your melee char, it's "hitting air" and clicking on mobs that are not actually on the screen :P

I rolled a 2H static strike in Bloodlines, playing self-found (which ofc translates into crap gear) and enjoying it every minute. My gear is ok-ish for playing 70 - 71 maps. Hard hitting mobs on damage modifier maps are potentially very deadly - even slight desync can cause you to "hit nothing", which in turn means not leeching, not stunning, not gaining endurance charges... and being open to spike damage. That's the biggest problem of melee, imo.

Exactly and that is why people is crying for melee to get more defenses, just because it would be a wayt to make melee more viable against the huge desync v.s ranged !

You still don't get it lol, pointless threads ...
This threat is pretty silly all things considered.

1) game doesn't even become challenging before 75+ maps with high % modifiers

2) melee gets fucked by spike hits coupled with desync and this can't be "fixed" only thing you can do is create a buffer that "hopefully" will sustain you for the desync period.

3) any build works with good gear to back it up in easy maps

This threat boils down to saying "guys i beat normal ledge with a mallet, melee is fine"

To which everybody will reply that you lack end-game experience.

To put it more bluntly, if your not starting out as a melee in a new league when resources(items) are scarce it's very hard to draw a good picture of melee's state. And it's pretty damn obvious that ranged/casters can progress way more easily and as a result get better gear earlier in a league and eventually be richer for it.

in short = invalid threat

melee is fun to play, but that comes with a price: biggest fkn gear-check in the whole game.
if you don't have the gear, your fun is bound to end. really, really quickly.

This !

And comparing a Totem build to a melee build isnt a good comparison I would say ;)

I understand the point that melee is underpowered compared to ranged for ultra-lategame content, where everything hits like a Mack truck. Really, I do.

What I don't understand is how players view such content as "the game," and if you're taking a character to 75 you're not playing "the game." Elitist much?

If you want to be real with yourselves, you guys aren't referring to endgame content. You're referring to post-game content.

It does sound a bit elitist, but it's also true. When people talk about endgame PoE content, they mean maps and Atziri.

It's one thing to say that a melee build is strong while leveling, but it's quite another to know that a build can efficiently conquer level 78 maps with most map mods. Once a player has taken a number of characters and build types to high levels (80+), then maybe they're qualified to discuss ranged versus melee in the core game.

Melee builds get up close and personal and typically get hit more frequently than ranged ones, and since melee isn't especially powerful in comparison to ranged, ranged innately has the upper hand. Then there's the poor slow melee builds on the left side of the tree (compare to the movement speed and crit available on the right side), the right side of the tree has Acrobatics/evasion (which is generally so much better than IR/armour/life regen), and don't even get me started on the state of two-handed non-staff melee.

I completely agree with your last paragraph, which I didn't quote here.

instead I quoted this one, because quite frankly I think it's BS.
why 80+ and 78 maps? why not 99+ and Uber Atziri farming? anyone below that doesn't know shit about the game, apparently, and should keep his/her noobish mouth shut while the "grown-ups" are discussing serious things, right?

don't be fkn ridiculous.
this right here, nullifies all the smart things you wrote in your post.

Well to be fair to him, 78 maps are the actual endgame for players and 85+ suggests you have spent time in the endgame, Uber Atziri is not a real sustainable endgame, just the final challenge for most builds that often is just done once and rarely farmed these days as much as it was before.

I have never seen a build have 10k hp and at the same time do so much damage on cyclone with Onslaught Song staff.

Although I'll be honest it might have a good amount of buffer HP and an absurd consistent burst DPS but for that investment, I was expecting around 13-15k+ HP, a lot more armor, about +2 or +3% more maximum resists, higher regen, and better crit and base damage, as well as staff block. Damn, I'm still stuck at how nice 1.0-1.2 patches were at for melee... Too bad all those bonuses were nerfed as a collateral damage from GGG's continuous and unwavering efforts on nerfing lowlife max resist stackers, RF players that has a million regen/second and block builds.

What a shame really how all those "balance" changes literally ripped a typical melee build to pieces.
