As someone who has been online since online was a thing (think BBSes), there will always be jerks. This is the nature of effectively anonymous collaboration. Some people really enjoy making other feel miserable with no consequence.
This is obviously something they wouldn't do in real life because these people are cowards. The only way they can feel like they have some sort of power and control is by ruining the day of someone else. It's a disturbing psychological condition, but if it's any consolation, the people who engage in this sort of behaviour are generally failures in society and nothing good will come of them. Just report these people, ignore and move on. |

Elitism is, indeed, alive and well in PoE. However, taking this one step will help greatly with tuning out some of the nastier people - turn off global chat.

I've actually, met some of the nicest people in this game. Tho I did stumble into a really got 'social' guild in GW2. (That game doesn't really do it for me tho.)
I'll also say, best 'staff' I've ever interacted with in a game. Fast 24/7, polite and ever so human. Extra votes for Brian who I have pasted soo many times when I see him standing around town. Wicarrrrd sense of humor! However, yeh. Global chat and such can be pretty painful. Especially 'peak' times for USA. (Not trying to be cuntryist, I got some really good USA friends here, that I even chat to on skype!) As people have said global 2 is usually much better. Also, back in beta, some guy helped me out with a few gems & tips, and let me add them to friends to ask them any Q's I was having about the game. I've re'done this myself to easily more than 10 people. It'd be nice if everyone tried to do at least 1 nice thing for others in once a day in this game! As for elitist, aggh the'll drive ya nuts anywhere. I have a pet hate of people telling you how to play, or your playing wrong. I'll gladly theory craft till the cows come home, but the elitists usually don't have any reason to back up there clams. Last guildy who did it to me, I bothered enplane it all, link maths, and all he could come up with was 'yur stupid'. Just remember the guy telling others they are noob/wrong/bads/stupid, is quite often lying on the ground dead, in simple content trying to make others feel bad no matter what, because they always do about themselves. ;-P |
