Spelling errors aside, this.

How can someone be too stupid to get scammed? I.e. they are so stupid that they cannot get scammed.

He means someone stupid enough to get scammed. Not everyone has english as their native language.

It'd be too time consuming to follow every 'scam' someone reports, most scams posted around the forums aren't even scams. Just don't be a dumbass and you won't get scammed.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

But not only that fact, because they don't help victims, they in fact are inadvertently supporting a shittier community and shitty people who... knowing the rules now... and knowing that they will not get any punishments... will go out of their way to seek more victims.

Do you want to know what I think a shitty community is?

A community full of cry-babies and whistleblowers who always cry to the authorities anytime anything bad ever happens to them because they were too fucking stupid to avoid it in the first place.

If you want to play a game full of rats and narcs that always have their way because the devs cater to their every little whim, go play blizzard games.

As you can see by the replies in this thread, and every other thread related to scamming, as is also further evidenced by GGG's position on the matter - we don't give a shit about scammers. What we don't like, is the sniveling little children who cry butthurt because they did something stupid and someone took advantage of them.

You are fighting a losing battle. Get over it, no one cares about the victims.

Um, theyre not taking it to GGG, thats the whole problem, they should but they dont. They rather publicly hang someone than talk to someone from GGG. But theyre are being stupid for falling for scams to begin with. People love to play victim, look at ferguson, omg the bad cops kill people, no shit, if you attack them. Same thing here, give someone an item without knowing the person and then call it a scam? Yeah...

I don't buy that - I actually applaud companies who get involved and at least try to make a difference in their communities. Perfect example of that was League Of Legends... while it has a bad rep for negative community, the fact is that LOL have continually tried to develop positive gaming environment with various systems - tribunal - rating team mates, opponents for rewards... while these haven't always worked, I still view them as highly positive attempts that actually were making a difference in the game.

What I believe is that through players like yourself - with this spiteful, completely unfeeling response of "Hey Victim, you are completely at fault" - victim blaming is really shallow and an equal problem. This isn't even an issue with a game, this is prevalent online. I think it's really safe to be this way behind a screen... and if any of you actually first hand experienced a friend, family member or yourself get sexually harassed, robbed, or even in a video game get your shit stolen... if you actually saw the repercussions on how it makes someone feel.. you wouldn't be such internet commandos about it.

Maybe a little bit of empathy in your lives would serve you well. No maybe about it actually.

What happens when we victim blame is pretty simple: we foster a terrible community. It becomes normal, and expected to be a rotten asshole to everyone around you.

I think people who grew up in games like Ultima Online all the way through to now... can see that these little online communities went from being a really pleasant place to be, where everyone helped each other... really giving a shit about each other... it would be shocking if anyone stole something from someone... fast forward to today's internet and gaming communities. It's kind of sad, actually. That you guys rush to defend the behavior - in fact even blaming the person and laughing at them.

We can't go back. But I just find this whole history pretty fascinating and really indicative of humanity. So go on... go look for people to fuck over in POE.

lol @ comparing actual crimes to scamming people in a game for in game things which are not meant to be sold for real money, there is no comparison what so ever, and maybe you can learn a thing or two about being cautious in real life from these experiences

1) Yup, Dunning-Kruger effect in action (yes, i will repeat it every time "scam thread" appears).
You can't see what other people are trying to explain to you and why those "victims" are just gullible people.

2) You're generalising.
Yes, if we will take IRL rape for an example - it's not good to blame the victim.

But come on, if someone is still so naive\stupid\unwise\out of critical thinking\has no common sense\whatever to fall for those so-called "scams"\believe to random stanger in mmo, and give him expensive stuff - yes, "victim" totally deserved it.

"Scam victims" are fully confident that they are right. They can't even see why this happened and where they were wrong.
Why?
Dunning-Kruger effect. They are stupid enough to not realise that they are stupid.

There are tons of similar examples IRL (if you like to compare a game with life).
Tons of adults fell for pyramid scheme(s), believe in Dietary supplements\telemarketing (frauds), etc etc
Remember, suffering is convenient.
That is why many people prefer it.
Happiness requires effort.

It is real life. That's a real human being you are fucking out of time, and investment. It's not an NPC. It's not a computerized entity. That's a living, breathing person.

I think that's the key to the internet: if you don't think you can say or do something to someone who is standing right in front of you "in real life" then maybe that is something you shouldn't be doing to them virtually.

You say this after that thread where you were talking so much very personal IRL trash about another individual.... Alright that's weird.

Anyways,

We are on this supposedly "dangerous" continent of Wraeclast full of dangers and bandits and thieves and other fellow exiles where everyone is at each others throats to survive. If you expect the hand of god to reach from the sky and smack down another dangerous exile because you had an agreement with them and they decided to deceive you than you should never pick up the weapon you find on the Twilight Stand in the first place because that is not the type of stuff that happens in a game which seems to have a laissez-faire policy.

I mean how often does GGG ever ruin the immersion of the game with God-Mode type acts like refunding "stolen" currency or anything close? I can't think of any examples off the top of my head but it would be interesting to see if there are some.
