Why Atziri's Acuity is actually balanced! (For those who don't know game balancing)

Uh... No, it just means that only that one person is far more overpowered than everyone else (relatively speaking). Scarcity makes OP uniques even more OP because now they are even further outliers from the average playerbase. IGN: OldManBalls (Warbands)

The Op is correct in alot of ways.
Balance in any game is a really hard thing for the players of the game to get thare head around sometimes. Sometimes thares balance in inbalance. A good eg. of this is something in PvP that is low level , ether a skill/item/tactic ( it can be anything ) that if used PERFECTLY can be used to kill a player with MUCh better gear / level / positioning . ect . This is very frustrating sometimes to deal with. Hears a eg. In EvE online a stealth bomber ship , if used correctly can destroy a ship worth 100 x it's value and the pilot of the other ship has little to no ability to counter this. So how the fuck can that be balanced ? sounds like a bullshit mechanic right ? well no not really. Before a situation gets into place whare the stealth bomber pilot can spring his trap thare are many warning signs to the other -players , basicaly if you let this ship get into the postiotion whare it can kill your very valuble ship then you miss read the warning , did not react , or simply over estemated yoour abilitys as well as your ship . It's the players fualt he died to this cheap throw away ship . Now when it comes to PoE and loot grinind based games some items will be more powerfull than others ( durp no shit eh ? ) if all items wher balance this game would not be a loot grinind game cuz why grind loot if it's all the same ? balance is fucking boring !!! Now giving accsess of the top tier items to all players has the same effect as having evreything balanced the same , it becomes boring and stale and evrey 1 haveing the same gear/build/stratagy . having content and items witch are gated for only a small % of players creats a new tier of power witch players can strive to get , and having this in a tiemd enviroment ( chalange ladders ) makes this even better for ALL players even the ones who have no hope in ever killing uber atziri. This creats a need to keep playing to get better to perhaps 1 day get this item you consider OP. Lets look at shavs . It was OP from day 1 and GGG knew it , so did evrey singile fucking player in the game at the time. So why would GGG put this items in game ? are they stupid ? did they just not think ? no they put the item in game then made it VERY rare. this gave players a goal to work towards , also keep in mind you can make a heavely modifieyd shavs build with no shavs ( CI based build ) then run that till you got your hands on 1 then do a big respec out of CI to make the full use of the item. It was soemthing that only very high level characters need'ed to bother with and gave people who put 1000 + houres into game in a mounth have soemthing to do. Shavs was fine in it's OP state on launch. The ONLy reason it was nurfed was dew to the outcray of players who did not have 1 , and lets look at how they nurfed it ... well it still dose the exact same thing ... still creats a build that is almost imposible to make withought it , still is only thare for the very top level characters and players . All it got was a small stat nurf , big deal the item is still the same , if it was OP before it's still OP now . GGG did this cuz they knew that the item in it's curent form of function could NEVER be balanced into line with other standard items ( that do not completly change the way the passive tree works for the character wearing it ) I personaly I think that GGG is correct in having gated content/items/builds that only matter when you enter into that level of play. Does anybody remember when chris said they don't wanna increase the rarity of BoR (even though they knew how overpowered it was/is) because it would push people further to feel it's the best in slot? Quite the opposite strategy here for the gloves.
obv the first one was failing (esp before the nerf to BoR) because even after the nerf how many times do u see a player with a 6 linked chest (20Q/20L) and less block chance instead of BoR? on the plus side everyone was happy to finish the build with less than 10ex. Less diversity and from GGG pov it's never intended to finish a build in less than a week (game will be played less as a result). Also for beyond league, even Havoc won't feel it's worth running uber 50 times or more to just a get single pair of gloves that no one can afford (also with -4 max resistances and all other nerfs toward LL ST) Last edited by Mephisto_n#6597 on Aug 19, 2014, 4:35:51 PM
