How retard is to use the 1.2 patch cold to fire gem with Freezing Pulse?

I mean, it is a huge buff:

It's alright, but it isnt amazing. At level 20 it has like a 29% damage boost? There are gems that offer way more damage than that, and those do not reduce the freeze potential.

I'll use Rathpith Globe against reflect, i hope i'll be fine with 50% spellblock and purity of ice.
Divinarius will be a good starter weapon for those who don't want to pay much currency.
I am using a 5L with FP+Cold Pen+Echo+Added Chaos+GMP until i have enough Crit to use PCoC.
Im actually lvl 44 and have no Mana Problems and 3 shotted Brutus on Cruel with shitty equip and i never died yet.

I really have hope in this Build :)

Glad you like it. Personally ill transition into crit between lvl 60 and 70. You should consider using pyre for reflect. Added chaos reflects no damage, while pyre + AA will make you pretty much immune to cold(fire) damage reflected.

Sure but isn't the cold dmg first scaled by cold/ele/spell mods then converted and then scaled again by fire/ele mods, resulting in potentially a lot more than the 29%? Or is the conversion before any modifications?

Will probably try to make a budget version of this work in rampage... haven't played a true selfcaster yet and this looks like a very interesting build.

Anyway, I agree that freezing should add a lot of survivability, so I'll probably skip cold to fire gem, too.

I dont think it double dips like that, but im not sure. I'll give it a try once i reach the higher levels and see how well it scales. Even if it does double dip i think other gems are better, you dont want to reduce freeze potential in half
It doesn't. Found a guy who knew about the internal mechanics. Cold to fire bye bye.
Been looking at the two trees that have been posted in this thread thusfar, they both look so good i can't decide which i like more. Could we get some discussion on the comparison between these two builds? which is better equipt for what? I'm trying to make my own build blending the ideas between these two builds together but i just want it all :'(.

The alternative tree is good. The problem with it however is that you wont have the mana regen you need untill you are 80+, meaming you can't run AA + MoM. Other than that it is a pretty strong build. Maybe if you keep spare your respec points and invest a couple of regrets it might be worth respeccing into once you are in your mid 80s, but untill then i would recommend the original build. I might respec eventually, inner force is really good, and even better if you consider how well it could scale with herald of ice, but i'll have to see how things turn out.

That's a fair take on the latter tree. I like your build from a defensive angle (lots of resi nodes/life/mana regen) but i'm not a huge fan of the templar starting area it invests in. Like you said, the main draw of his build is the inner force and other spell crit nodes. Also i have one question for you, why did you skip the "stun ignore while casting" nodes at the start of the witch tree? i feel like these are essential for any caster, and you can pick up a large chunk of str/dex on the way.

Not sure how effective the nodes are. I've played plenty of casters without stun avoidance and never really had any issues with it. The points are nice, but they cost 2 more points than i would need when i route around them. I consider those luxury points, which i normally would pick up late game.

Okay, looks like just a simple difference of opinion. I can't make a build right now (work browser is IE) but i'm thinking of doing a combination of the two trees we were comparing.

The North (witch) area being the same as yours + my changes for the stun ignore. Same East (shadow) area, Changed the West area to be

for now, and then i'll invest some regrets and model my tree more like the other build as i reach higher levels (my witch only being level 66 currently).
