A factor of inflation and why the economy is NOT WORKING
I don't get nearly as annoyed about this type of thing as other people do.
The game has a bot-based economy. Eternal orbs was a gift to those who want to participate in the botconomy, not the guy who just wants to add one affix to a shitty item found off the ground to make it decent. Of course inflation in Standard will continue off into infinity as the number of bots remains steady and the active player base lulls in size. That was the entire point of short term leagues. All in all the socket system tax at least gives a semblance of a relevant currency system for us self find bottom feeders. (I am kind of butthurt Astral Plates (+36 resist points) and Glorious Plates (no movement penalty) get a free affix versus all the other red armours. Game balance!) " If you want an idea of the time commitment needed - to be at the top (in the top 5 or so in wealth of actual players) of Ambush my steam PoE hour count went up by about 1650 during Ambush - and I did not play at all in the final week of the league. You can do the division - but that's a fair number of hours per day. Some of that was afk time ofc. Re iir: I prefer clear speed. Highest iir I had at any point was 25% from a rat's nest on my early CoC char - my later chars all played at 0% iir. The big thing in Ambush was getting ahead on the new bosses - Atziri was very profitable early, and Uber even more so. (We did many kills when Hopes were as low as 11-13ex each) Uber remained pure profit until Hopes broke over 26ex, but then that equilibrium point moved up again as well as we raised the price on Acuity once more. Overall it was a minor loss to farm her at the end of the league. To become very wealthy you need to find your niche - it is not enough to just run around killing monsters and hoping for good drops. That will get you places but if it's the top you aim for, you need to utilize the work of others towards your own ends. (Economically speaking - and a big thanks goes out to all you players who farmed midnights and Hopes in Ambush to fuel the engine) Only by indirectly harnessing the labor of the masses can you place yourself so far above the majority of the player base - it is not possible for everybody to achieve huge wealth - it is by its very nature an excersize in concentration. For some this niche is crafting - it requires huge capital to get started but building BiS items can pay off big. For newer/poorer players you need to find an easier to break into niche. +1 Shavs Project -----> /1075009

" Challenge on maps my ass. I have beaten all the content of the game to the point that I walk through as if it was a kindergarten. The only thing I need now is to pass the energy shield check that Uber Atziri is. Nothing else. Last edited by chromafunk#7100 on Jul 19, 2014, 3:34:51 PM

" Dude, I don't even want to be at the top, I just want some decent god damn currency drop rates for putting in hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of mapping and grinding... |

i suggested GGG to work on some kind of true crafting vendor service in the next ACT but i got blatantly ignored
a true crafting service would satisfy mid-to high tier demands the crafting service from vendors i suggest is to merge 2 items with high rolls into one for a fee lets say i have this and then i use another staff with another T1 mod and i merge it for a small fee |

" They won´t do that cause crafting is designed to be a currency sink. Crafting anything, from maps to the most expensive weapon is just a currency sink. |

Interesting read on Standard League inflation. That got me thinking too. If what the OP saw with just one type of gear (boots) is typical for Standard league then that begs the question, Why is GGG allowing this to happen? Most forum posters claim that drop rates are deliberately set low to protect the PoE economy. If supply is so low that the sellers can ask for ridiculously high prices for gear then wouldn't it be prudent for GGG to increase the drop rates for better quality gear? If supply and demand works in PoE similar to real world then keeping the supply super low by keeping the RNG drop rates super low is not protecting the PoE economy but allowing for runaway inflation.
Most of the players that are still here playing PoE (the 99%) have asked and are still asking for GGG to increase the quality endgame worthy gear and crafting orb drop rates. GGG insists that the drop rates need to be this low to protect the game economy. Yet supply and demand dictates that with very little quality endgame worthy gear to go around that selling prices will skyrocket and thus inflation is ruining the PoE economy. It makes no sense that with millions who have tried PoE and quit from the lack of quality drops verses time played (the super high grind time to better gear is a huge turn off), and most who are still playing asking GGG for better rewards for time played, that GGG continues to turn its back on us, and in doing so is destroying the PoE economy that they claim they are working hard to protect. GGG states that their hard work to keep bots out of PoE by way of the high server side controls as the main reason for high desync. Ok, we saw how bots ruined D3 economy so no one wants a repeat here. But then for GGG to turn a blind eye on the fact that super low drop rates on quality endgame usable gear is driving prices and inflation to the stratosphere makes no sense either. All I can say is WTF GGG! Your crazy screwed up economy isn't working. The super low drop rates on endgame quality gear is creating run away inflation. You have driven away millions of players with the huge time/reward imbalance in PoE and have lost a huge source of revenue in the process. I don't understand what motivates GGG, if not fame or money, then just being able to say "this is the arpg we would most like to play" won't keep you in business for very much longer. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. The perfect solution to fix Trade Chat: www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2247070 |
