Is GGG getting a pass on development issues? If so is that fair?

" I support this line of thoughts. To those claiming there has been improvements with desync please tell me what because as of today the game is still plagued by it. Just decided to play a cyclone build couple days ago knowing I would get rapped by desync but it's not even a rape it's a gang bang. Even with my totem spec I cannot play without oosing every pack. Graphics only became an issue for me after SotD release (that rain...) but I sympathize with pple who can't afford a big rig (even having one doesn't cut it so don't despair) Now do they get a pass? I don't think so, PoE is a free game (no excuse) made by an semi-pro game company (First game ever) located in NZ (not the best economical exposure). So if we would compare PoE to D3 it would more understandable to see why things are not fixed as fast as this other game (workforce/media exposure/ budget). That being said it does not excuse the lack of communication from GGG on certain matters like "What are you actually doing to improve desync?" And Chris saying they are working on it internally at GGG's headquarter won't cut it this time because that announcement has been made in an interview almost 6 months ago. Same for the trading system, how hard is it to implant a trading zone with "personal shops" (think AION for example). This lack of actions + seeing all these micro transactions makes you wonder. Did they become so arrogant they lost any sense of perspective? Is making lot's of money despite the supporting community their only goal? Where is their sense of priorities? Do they play their own game enough? I'd finish on that last question. I have been playing this game a lot, being jobless has been very helping :) or not; and all I can say when someone talk about RNG is "you've got to be kidding me". Even if PoE was your job and you'd work 60 hours a week you would not: - be able to actually craft smthing because you don't have the currency. - drop loads of GG gear. - makes you forget about desync. - gives you fun. Let anyone at GGG play the game 1 month straight and listen to what he has to say, I'm sure you'd be surprised and maybe I say maybe those "knee-jerks" observations will make sense. I love the game but I hate where it's going. Numbers might be fine for now but I like to think passionate pple don't do what they do just for the sake of money and celebrity. Cheers |

"I don't view this as a problem with the game, but with a common player misconception. Orbs aren't crafting. The item data page doesn't use the word "craft" once; neither does the Development Diary entry. Orbs are Gheed 2.0. It's a gambling system, and within the context of a gambling system, it's fantastically well designed and, if gambling is what you're looking for, extremely satisfying. Well, not really at low levels, where using orbs is a waste. But at high levels, yes, fun. Vendor formula are crafting; I wouldn't call them Horadric Cube 2.0, more like some kind of retro beta version, Cube 0.9, inferior to what we remember from Diablo 2. The problem is not that you need to trade to craft, because you don't; I'm only aware of one vendor formula which can be seriously viewed as encouraging trading, and its output is a Goddess Scorned. The problem is that, for the most part, the items you can craft are orbs, whose purpose is: trade or gamble. We need far more equipment outputs than we have now. " Or even further... If they have no real intention of fixing said issues because they determined that it wasn't cost effective based on player feedback. What if Chris & Team has decided that desync for example, is too expensive and labor intensive to correct. To justify this they look at the game in its current state and the given feedback from the players. If they determine only a minority of people complain, and that those "complainers" get public shunned for bringing up criticism, then they can basically ride out what is currently in place. If they wait long enough, the players get used to what they have, old vets die off, and then they don't really have to do anything. I think the guys at GGG are smart enough to know what their options are. I personally believe that desync will never be fixed, its too involved, and they are "waiting us out". Chris can't really come out and say it will never be fixed, but if nothing is ever done, what difference does that make? The graphical issues that have been mentioned in this thread follow a similar thinking. Since the game is out, and playable, what real incentive do they have to update the issues timely? This has been going on for well over a year, and they know what skills, lighting, ect cause problems. Clearly the dont care that much. " If I had any inkling that was true, I wouldn't be around for long. I'm definitely not expecting perfection, but I've witnessed people who have desync to levels far worse than their system health and connection health would suggest they should. I'm lucky. I have very few desync issues. It is crazy, because I have slower, non centralized internet service. All of my set up should lead to bad desync, but mine is barely an issue at all, while others who have clean systems and have far better connections than me have terrible problems. I've seen it, and can't explain it. It isn't like they are doing anything different from me. Without going into a lot of network details, it really is difficult to explain. In the end, they can't really enjoy the game. If I had any indication from GGG that players suffering from that sort of gameplay were being ignored, I don't think I would hang around. It would be quite cruel, really. However, I'm quite certain that isn't the case. Thankfully. I think we will see continued improvements to desync, and hopefully those impacted the most see the most improvement. It's always going to be an issue for some, but I think there is enough room for improvement to make it less of a universal problem annoying some, and making the game unplayable for others, and bring it to a point where the lucky ones don't even remember what huge a problem it was, and the unlucky ones prone to desync, can at least experience a playable game. For as much as I enjoy the game, watching what some people experience is...painful. I'm so glad I don't have those issues, because if I did....I don't think I would be able to play it. " Just to elaborate, I wasn't trying to infer that GGG was somehow cruel in what they are doing. What I was saying is they may have reached a conclusion based on business that "fixing" desync simply isn't worth the trouble given how the majority of the players are willing to accept it. Since the reaction still isn't overwhelming, financially GGG doesn't really have to fix anything. It makes perfect sense actually that if something cost hundreds of thousands of dollars/man hours to update a system that for the most part is functional, than why bother. Perhaps they have decided in the F2P model that turnover is acceptable as long as they churn out new content and grab dollars from those newbies. I'm sure they have a saturation figure showing the spending habits of accounts based on join date/played hours/ ect... Just playing devils advocate, and why I started this thread, perhaps the players have given GGG the impression that the game is fine the way it is....or at least to the point they can't justify an investment to correct what is in place. " No, no. Just adding in my take on it there. " Leaving that that would mean ignoring a portion of their playerbase, which I don't think GGG would do, even if it was brought down to a cost to correct an issue impacting them. Leaving that aside, I'm not sure that is a good idea in the long term.I get the feeling that it would eventually cause a turnover that would negatively impact any profits GGG see in the later stages. Sure, money may need to be spent now, and right now the cost may seem high compared to the current number of people mentioning it. But, I don't think it would be a good idea to accept it in the long term. Then again, I don't know how much investment would / is going into the problem... " I don't think so. For example, I know Chris has said in the past, he isn't satisfied with certain aspects of crafting. Now, I don't know if that means there are big changes coming, or if only small tweaks are coming, but I do know that Chris, and the GGG staff have said repeatedly they are making a game they'd want to play. If there is something they aren't satisfied with, I'd wager they would work towards making it something they can at least be more satisfied with. I know the desync issue isn't being ignored, but I bet there are some things people complain about that aren't going to change as well. Problems need to be fixed. Especially technical ones like network, system, and graphical optimization. Some design things I think depend on how GGG see the game. On THAT I would agree. Less so on the technical issues side... " Maybe you're on USA gateway, Europe lags much more. Depends a lot on your build too, we all know cyclone desyncs like mad and movement skills are very susceptible too if you go wild with them, but also some skills you wouldn't expect. I'll make a short video one of these days just to demonstrate splashed dominating blow, no idea why would that one be so vulnerable to it. And it really sucks, many interesting builds are practically unplayable because of it, for instance I had a puncture splasher that has an awfully nice flow, a really fun and different build, but it's almost unplayable due to desync. Also got a dual shockwave totem, I have to carry a trap around just to see where dangerous enemies are, you'd think it's safe, they got knocked all the way across the room... WRONG, toss a trap and you see he's standing right next to you practically nibbling your toenails. Yeah, I know it's not easy to fix, it's costly and takes time, so I don't really expect a miraculous cure anymore. Still, it sucks, not only are certain skills much harder to use than it would be reasonable, but a whole playstyle went extinct in PoE, playing glass cannon is a wild dream. Desync: doesn't bother me too much, I almost don't care.
Performance: is great on my Nvidia card, again no problem for me. GGG = passed. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" Desync passes for me too. Although on performance it doesn't, because... ATI. What a funny thing actually, there is even a real life RNG when talking about PoE, if you didn't know about the performance issues and you go buy yourself some nice machine, if you bought ATI Radeon, you're most likely screwed, but if you've bought NVidia, you're most likely good to go. |

" Oh, I know. Yes, I'm on the NA gateway. I hear a lot of folks say the EU gateway is worse. The thing is, I've even tested it with my computer on the same build on a different connection that should be far better than mine. I live in the middle of nowhere Canada on a spotty line of sight wireless radio internet service. Slow, slow, slow. Like sub 5M downspeed. Latency it higher than it is in town as well. However, I played on a connection in a large city on a great connection as a test. My friend, who lives there complains about desync non stop. I didn't believe him at first. But when i played on his connection, I couldn't believe it. He has a 30M down connection, with fantastic latency, and no packet loss. I couldn't tolerate it. It was baffling. Since then I have a lot more sympathy for the frustration some people have. "I would have listened... I would have understood!" - Scion
