"hardcore" overflow

how about a pack of monsters, where one guy does the Vaal Ice zero-damage attack just to slow you down and limit your movement, another has Lazers and shoots you from range while trying to sneak up on you, some small and fast mobs that swarm you after the ice guy does his move, and maybe try to get you within range of a big, slow dude that does the slam move?
an example that just randomly crossed my mind, from the Vaal Oversoul analogy.

"collective intellect": enemies working together to take you down, while a single mob does not necessarily one-shot you, or even do any noticeable damage at all.

desync will certainly play a role in this, which is why getting it to playable levels should be priority number 1 for GGG (it's not, atm) - but after that, skill-based challenge via AI, is certainly doable.

and no change in the existing system is needed, except maybe more frequent running speed bonuses.

Hardcore is a term people use as a description to elevate their own achievements.

It has no actual objective base, but is a self-characterization to make up for certain insecurities.

Above that it serves as a distinction between "them" and "us", emphasizing on the superiority of the "us" for being tougher/better/more skilled than "them".

Again an arbitrary distinction stemming from insecurities. Typical sociological phenomena really.

Armchair psychology too stronk. I could also turn this around and ask why softcore players are going out of their way trying to devalue the achievements of hardcore players :D Any suggestions, Mr. Freud?

1. Many in Normal (there is no softcore) just playing the game for the fun of it.
2. Attention seekers start hardcore and post how superior they are purely for being in a different game mode.
3. Posts created by others to show how build limiting and endless safe grinding to face tank is not skill, does not make you superior, sometimes explanations of why (previous post)
4. Generic flamewar as the attention seekers try to defend their fake superiority. (your post)

Stopped reading at 'there is no softcore'. You seem to belong to the inferiority complex faction :P
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

are those Standard League characters I see in your profile, Xavderion?
active ones too, looking at their levels.
you even have a guy in Ambush.

you fail at "hardcore elitist" man, playing all leagues.
and you fail at trolling too. better take some lessons.

but most of all, you fail at contributing meaningful, on-topic things to discussions.

Everyone likes to play Sherlock when on the forums now. Sad.
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

You're right, I'm not a hardcore elitist. Sorry?

You're wrong about my trolling abilities though :D

And if you wanted meaningful discussion, you would've worded your opening post differently. You also conveniently ignored the long-ass quote I posted about why GGG thinks their game is hardcore :)

I really dont see how that diverges from existing gameplay when im just going to pew pew them while facetanking anyways. without them being able to do a ridiculous amount of damage at an offset like dramatically reduced healh, i dont see how this changes the spam main skill and win paradigm not to mention implementing that on random mobs is going to be ridiculously complex. Are these new enemies? are these existing ones with new spells and attacks?

those leap lizards have artic breath, archers have "lasers" in the form of ranged attacks, bubble evangelist have a shield.

also, ggg will never get desync to a level everyone will be happy with.

One shotting is fake difficulty. POE isn't hardcore; it's Nintendo Hard.

A real hardcore game would restrict alt-f4 and insta-logout features. It would test your skill by requiring you to maintain a consistently high level of performance.

POE does not do that. POE gives you hordes and hordes of guys you will plow through with zero difficulty in the hopes that on the off chance when you hit that one crazy rare/boss that has coincidentally stacked every parade-of-horrible mod, you'll not be awake enough to hit alt-F4 before it kills you.

Then you come back to it later. You fight that high-end content when you're super over-leveled for the zone. Because otherwise that content is Nintendo Hard.

Are you suggesting players are skipping content and trivializing it ? =0

The two most important skills needed for POE are a keen eye for the markets and the ability to hit accept when prompted. It's very taxing. =P

There's the type of difficulty that can be dealt with skill, no need for GG gear, just some hand-eye coordination and patience.

There's the type of difficulty that can only be dealt with gear (checks).

The second one feeds the economy a lot more than the first. And since GGG absolutely loves the economah...

I never thought of it that way, but now it makes sense. If we assume that GGG's main objective is the economy, it all makes sense.

Of course you need a hell lot of gear checks if you want the economy to be more important.
