Updated 2/19/2014 Anti-RMT Self-Found Tags for ALL Leagues in All Windows + SF Maps (other details)
I did not read all of it, but you get a free +1 from me. Quite easy (i hope, not sure about it) to implement. And it would be nice creating a mini-game in the current game, maybe a separate ladder for SF players.
I don't think anybody would mind this implementation for SF tags. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

There is no need for item usage restrictions based on SF or non-SF state." HeavyMetalGear replied: "Thanks you for not giving up on this. Since you put it that way, you're right, SF-tagged characters should be able to use gear that's not SF-tagged so long as there is a penalty for SF-tagged players attempted to wear SF-tagged gear not found by SF-tagged characters. I will be updating the OP to address this idea." Perfect_Black quotes HeavyMetalGear: "On another note, SF-tagged characters would of course be able to use gear from other SF-tagged characters." Perfect_Black wrote: "So, SF tagged characters can use gear from other SF tagged characters but not from non SF tagged characters. It is like a league within a league. All leagues become hybridized. No thanks." HeavyMetalGear replied: "Like I said, I am already addressing the issue you brought up in the OP. It's a great idea." Perfect_Black quotes HeavyMetalGear: "You're still not understanding. IF a SF-tagged character were to trade another player, let's say another SF-tagged player, both of you lose your SF Tags, and your items would lose their SF Tags, too." Perfect_Black wrote: "Why would all of the items lose their SF tags? They are no less SF after the trade than before the trade. In my mind, the only items that are no longer SF items, are the ones that exchanged accounts. If both parties were to immediately drop or destroy or vendor the item(s) received in trade, I don't see why they couldn't re-acquire SF status." HeavyMetalGear replied: "Let me clarify vs. what I think you're saying. SF-tagged players when trading other SF-tagged players (or players that are not SF-tagged) get the SF Tag removed. You're right, the items shouldn't be penalized as a result for reason being other SF-tagged characters you have may want to use the gear of a character that used to be SF-tagged. As far as items being dropped, that won't matter because SF-tagged gear cannot be picked up by a character that's not SF-tagged. I will be addressing these issues in the OP sometime tomorrow, and at the same time, optimize the OP so things are short and less repeated. Thank you." When game developers ignore the criticism that would improve their game, the game fails. Just because a game receives a great amount of praise vs. only a small amount of criticism does not mean to call it a day and make a foolish misplaced assumption that it is perfect. I don't blame the suggestion, it's really well done, etc. and I'm totally with you when it comes to SFL, drop rates and all that. Typical recent example is the Athene interview. What is the main reason he asked Chris about a SFL ? "I don't have the time". I don't get why a lot of SFL supporters put the two together : SFL => easier game. Sorry, but saying "I want a SFL because I don't have that much time to play" = the SF mode has to go faster than the actual mode. So it's easier. I know not every SFL supporter thinks that way, but still. So totally agree with you.
But I have a problem with your suggestion : why do you expect the developpers of an online multiplayer game, who said several times that dropping an item which may be good for other players is one of the core aspect of the fun of looting in their game, to make something special or emphasize the fact that some don't want to play the game like that ? I understand they give tags to people that completed challenges, etc. But why would they give a little star (because that is what a tag is) to someone who chooses to play the game in his own way ? It is more relative to people's own choice, that's it, but they shouldn't expect some kind of recognition, even more since they're still playing the same game, so aside from some e-peen thing and "ow look I'm a SF dude", it really adds nothing. Furthermore, GGG try their best to keep the community "as one", not to split it between hardcore and softcore players (we can hear that in Athene interview, and the one week race was a good step), why would they want now to split the community between SF and non-SF ? It's simply not happening. IGN : @Morgoth Last edited by Morgoth2356#3009 on Jan 13, 2014, 8:44:44 AM

What will these tags help you do? Segregate yourself from the trading plebeians?

" There wouldn't really be a community 'split', as you put it, for the simple fact SF-tagged players can still play with players that are not SF-tagged, and still grab drops no matter the allocation setting set by a Party Leader. If anything, it would add a bit of a challenge to the game where, "OK, I've gotten through the game by trading my way through it, now let's see if I can get through the game by finding things on my own." If you look at my earlier comments, I already said I am not in disagreement to the fact SF tags would not really add significant value to the gameplay of PoE. That's what my opinion says (and anyone else who would agree.) However, at the same time (because we are all not the same) I said that while TO ME SF tags are not really something of significant value to PoE, other people who would say other would disagree, and therefore, I wanted to come up with an idea players could agree with more opposed to a SFL. Thing is, players thrive off some form of recognition, and everyone's got their own definition of what rightly defines their 'e-peen' be it they got the newest unique weapon in town, armor, boots, etc. The same goes for SF tags. It's no different. With that being said, any player at any given time can split away from and give up their SF Tag by simply attempting to trade other players OR wear gear from characters that are not SF-tagged. You see, the idea of SF tags vs. a SFL is very flexible and balanced in that it has everyone's free will to do what they want in mind. I have learned (more than not) ideas people make up that are too one-sided to one thing ends up being more controversial opposed to more flexible ideas people can agree with more. Conclusively, at the end of the day, when players have exhausted everything they could possibly do in PoE, I'm quite sure they'll be curious or think about whether or not they want to take on the challenge of going through the game by maintaining their SF Tag. When game developers ignore the criticism that would improve their game, the game fails. Just because a game receives a great amount of praise vs. only a small amount of criticism does not mean to call it a day and make a foolish misplaced assumption that it is perfect. HeavyMetalGear replied: "The suggestive point you seem to be making is a moot argument since there are already players who think themselves superior to others just by the gear they wear. These players are also elitist toward the level of other players in which if other players don't meet up to their level expectations, etc. they get kicked from the party, worse, badmouthed and degraded. Therefore, the above stated is always going to be an issue no matter what game you play, and no matter if SF tags are implemented or not. The trick is to be the better person and walk away from or ignore people who discourage you back to disease and death. That's what they want! With that in mind . . . The idea of SF tags (more than not) would alleviate the 'What do I do now since I've exhausted everything in PoE' issue in which some players would be compelled to want to take on the challenge of getting through the game by maintaining their SF Tag by not trading anyone. Just because players are SF-tagged does not mean they cannot play in groups with players who are not SF-tagged. You seem to suggest otherwise within the wording of your comment thinking it's the other way around, wrongly assuming there would be no interaction between players. Despite your opinion, on the flipside, do you think a SFL would be any better in that players would literally be separated since a SFL would have the potential to steal players away from other leagues? (as is already happening between already-existing leagues) The difference with a SFL and SF tags is people across all leagues with SF tags can let them go any time they want. A SFL does not have this level of flexibility, and at the same time, a SFL would then alienate itself from other leagues in that RNG and drop rate changes would only pertain to that league. That is the question. P.S. I don't think plebeians is the right name-calling word for SF-tagged players if ever this idea were implemented into PoE since it entails vulgarity. Vulgar, how? That SF-tagged players will say hardy, har, har, I got a SF Tag and you don't? Perhaps, but we cannot judge everyone the same way that's SF-tagged to be that way. It's an over-generalizing judgement to make. Some people would want to maintain their SF Tag for the sake of challenge when they've exhausted everything they could do in PoE by trading their way through the game. The motive behind maintaining a SF Tag is not always going to be motivated by e-peen arrogance." When game developers ignore the criticism that would improve their game, the game fails. " It's not a matter of the ability to play together or not. I said that GGG don't want the community to be split between SC and HC players (as it is discussed in Athene - Chris interview), so they have no reason to split it afterwards between SF and non-SF players. But HC and SC players can't play together, it's more a matter of "how can we work in a way that the community doesn't feel split between HC and SC, that HC and SC players are playing the same game and are in the same community ?". So the fact SF and non-SF could play together doesn't mean they could not be split "in spirit", if I may say. IGN : @Morgoth
