Why have you stopped playing?

When I feel the urge to re-install and play PoE, I think of the terrible drop rate.

I loved D1 & D2. I had many "holy cow" moments when I killed monsters and picked up awesome items. PoE has given me a couple of such moments (to a lesser degree) in the normal mode. Nothing after that.

My archer advanced to Act 3 in the merciless mode. She had been using the same set of equipment since the middle part of Act 3 in the normal mode because nothing better had been dropped. Then, I realized it was not fun to continue and deleted her.

I'm not a hard core gamer and can't spend 300+ hours on PoE or trading to accumulate currency items to get a few pieces of cool gear. Even if I had lots of currency items, I wouldn't want to engage in trading. Well, I've never traded in my real life. When I need an item, I know where to find it, pay for it and it's mine.

It's a shame because the game mechanics are really superb. If GGG fixes the drop rate or the dark-age trading system, I'll surely play again and pay my dues.
basically drop rates only exist in trade chat....

while playing the game you just find nothing all the time.

I was just about to make a thread about why i havent been playing and why i might consider stopping. Been playing off and on for a while now and here is why.

Ive had well over 10 level 70+ characters ive deleted for space, all of which were failed build tests. Testing builds and getting the gear for them, as well as leveling is too tedious, time consuming and expensive. The unexpected Aura change alone ruined quite a bit of my characters when 1.0 hit.

This is coming from someone who played World of Warcraft for 7 years, completed Naxx and Sunwell when they were current content (The two hardest raids in mmorpg history), soo i know very well the effort it takes to grind gear, find successful builds, and do tedious things all the time in a game.

Most of the reason new builds dont come out is because of the huge amount of time consumption and currency it takes to test them, which is why everyone still uses the basic cookie cutter builds. Theres hardly any variation in builds because most of the builds can be used on any character, and work just as well.

It takes a long time just to hit 70-80, generally when a build is complete, ontop of that you have to get all the gear you need. Reusing characters for new builds is completely unrealistic because youd end up spending fortunes on Orbs of Regret.

Ive yet to find a fun and unique playstyle that actually works. Infact i could argue that the way this games mechanics work, make it near impossible to find anything fun and unique to play.

Want to play a Freeze Trap Glacial Hammer Templar ? Sounds good on paper but you cant because you wont put out enough damage, or you wont have enough survivability, or you wont have enough mana to sustain the build, etc. The list goes on and on really... Sometimes i dont even think its about the complexity of the game, i think theres just too much you have to try to manage to have something fun and endgame viable.

Not being able to test builds just kills it for me in soo many ways.

Regarding what you said about builds, I like to create builds as well, but as you said it's difficult. Your Templar build has been something I've wanted to do, but can't. I've mentioned to GGG raising the realistic level of now getting to L80 to L90. That would really open up the build diversity. Map currency expense is just too much for 90% of the player base. I'm not about to poor what little currency into my maps. lol
I'm done as well. The game is just completely unrewarding to play and unbalanced. There have been multiple posts throughout the forums for the various problems POE has, so I'm not going to go into all of that. I realized it for myself when I seen a month's worth of game play flushed down the toilet for literally nothing.

I'm talking of course about crafting. Things will only get worse in the future in terms of wasted time/currency with nothing to show for it. I'm not interested in playing an economy simulator either (that's not even implemented in the game itself). Seriously, if anyone remembers D3 early crafting - where you'd spend a ton of gold and scraps on crap items - POE is much worse. My weapon is the same as I started with after trying to craft (a 4 link). So seeing a month's worth of currency go poof for nothing isn't fun and will only get worse when I need to use more expensive currency like exalts / externals.
FB was op. Will never get a char as good as frenzy fb.
Could not get my new build with CodT to work because they nerfed it in midst of build planning in a very bad way. Sold all my gear for idiotic fusings. Got tired of filling up my stash with completly useless uniques while waiting for ONE good unique i could make an endgame build with. Also, the RL friend i usually play with had 400 pure exalted made from trading... puts things into perspective. Also maps are damn boring, and leveling even more (tried one race, was a waste of time for me).

Crafting is the major one, isnt it?

People complain about item drop rates, but that's a minor issue. When you have already good gear, it's not reasonable to expect you'll easily get drops that will be upgrades to your gear. What really makes this a problem is, of course - crafting. Crafting based only on RNG is a problem, and the problem is also compounded by poor orb drop rates. The fact that you can not craft good items yourself is exactly what leads to being forced to play the trade simulator and buy all the gear you need.

If fusings drop all the time, people would use them all the time. As it were, they dont, and you have to grind for alts->jewellers->fusings->exalts and then buy items using poe xyz. Just one example...

I sincerely believe that fixing currency (+maps) drop rates and fixing crafting would lead to a major end-game improvement for all players.

16 pages and no dev post to address some of the issues.
Vote +1 to change Path of Exile to Path of Nerfs.
We hate to say, but ProjectPT was right.

This

Though PoE is clearly a better overall game, it is MUCH WORSE than D3 when it comes to drop rates. At least in D3, a lot of legendary/set items had a chance to be worth something, because they rolled random mods based on ilvl. I sold a Tal Amulet for $1000 and vendored the 5 I found before that one, just because the rolls were godly. With PoE when I hear the unique sound, I know it's going to be 1 of 10 shitty uniques, and they have zero potential to be worth something.

Grinding your ass off for 300 hours to see 1 Exalted drop, and watch it hit "1-4 physical damage" on an ilvl 75+ 2 hander shows you how shitty rare drops are in this game even when you manage to find them. GGG's logic= "we are bleeding players and everyone is complaining about shitty drop rates and even shitter crafting. Let's give Exalted Orbs a visual update". I don't even know what planet these guys are on right now.
