Really?? This is a problem....

People are farming lvl 70+ maps playing purely self-found. Trading is a shortcut to getting better gear, but not a complete replacement as you're suggesting it is. You can do it if you're willing to accept you'll never have the single best piece of gear for any slot.

Unfortunately, a lot of people playing this game are ex-MMO players, and are so used to min/maxing via BiS gear that they almost cannot function without it.

If you can't get the single best piece of gear for any slot then why was there a guy a while back with over 3000 exalts and 10 mirrors? If he wanted he could of had BIS items in every slot through only trading.

How did we get from farming high runes to farming El runes?

You're close to being correct. Only we're selling blue quality gear for El runes instead of gold, and it takes a LOT fewer of them to get to a Pul.

Yeah I knew when I posted it El was actually undervaluing them... it made the point clearer though.

And yet it would still take ~34000 Alts to buy a Voltaxic. 15000 for a Shav's. 8000 for a BoR. Those rates just get worse every day.

So it's not far off.

To which people will (somewhat correctly) say, you don't need a Voltaxic or a Shav's to do end-game. Who cares? Ignoring the fact that Shav's is a build enabler (more alts to try/play), why would you not aim for the best? Why do you think others shouldn't? Sure gear progression needs to be measured, if it's too quick the game becomes boring, people "finish" and leave for other games. The thing is, if it's too slow the effect is the same. PoE skates dangerously close to one cliff just to avoid the other.

Why? I've only been here a few weeks/month, but is seems to me drops and progression are tuned to service a trading economy that provides no actual gameplay(or game) benefit. It's nothing but a pain in the ass. Which is unfortunate, because the actual gameplay is fun.

It's not true, dude. Self found may lead a player to 66-69. Even if he manage to brake through, he'll be hammered at +72 maps. Tell me how a self found can support +100 chaoses on stock, just for rolling maps, as a long game session may cost you +50 wasted on HL maps. Not to mention regals, scours, etc. Without trading you are done and won't progress.

You may be right, or may be not, but it doesn't matter. PoE is quite MMO-ish itself, so ex mmo players found their home.

I was talking about playing self-found. You're talking about trading. Is this what trolling is supposed to be?

Yes, you CAN trade for "all da best gearz." But you're not forced to. And they don't push trading on you nearly to the extent that D3's AH's do. You can absolutely beat the game and farm maps with minimal trading, or even none at all. But too many people can't fathom playing with gear that isn't 100% optimal.

Of course it is, have fun playing ANY ES build without trading, you grind 200+ hours or you just rip to every mob because ES just sucks without expensive gear.
400 ES shield? 1 Exalt at least.

Any 5-6-Linked gear? Have fun finding one. And the orbs to change the colors, 100-1000 for the right ones, all selffound, suuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

PoE has no Action House, but you're running vs an invisible wall selffound sooner or later like in D3. It's the same lame mechanics with RNG and drops.

I don't know folks....How do you get any enjoyment or excitement out of trading? I sure do not..I trade, though I hate it...Trading seems to be the most efficient way around gear checks. Which is actually pretty sad...You're not really farming for items for yourself, you're farming items for sale and hope to God someone buys it for currency.

These are really critiques on the ARPG genre as a whole, and not about this game in particular. Everything in these posts can be said of D2 and D3. If you don't like the way it plays, there's always a F2P MOBA, or an MMO out there for you.

As I already said in a more gentle way, you'd better shut the fuck up, as the game you play at the moment is actually close to a MMO clone for a long time ago.
Also don't tell people what, when and how to do. Save it for yourself.

I don't see how this is a problem. I mean, unless these people RMT'd (which I really don't care about either - but it is against the rules), it's completely fine. Some people get lucky with items and sell them for big bux (exalts in this case). Some people also like to sit in trade all day and sell items/flipp currency. Obviously they do it really well, and I see nothing wrong with it.
