A self-found purist's feedback [Long]

Putting aside Blizzard,

about the (paid) custom leagues, the only hope since GGG don't want to support self found officially: would they provide a flexible customization, or it's "pick 'n' mix" from the pre-existing leagues (dunno, turbo cutthroat for example)?

Before that, are such leagues actually planned or is it a feature left for a distant future?

It won't happen, no way will GGG allow a proper loot-find league. No way, no how, no matter the potential revenue.

You have to consider PoE design. The whole concept is that pretend hardcore gamers get to path-of-least resistance facreoll and feel all hardcore.

This is the market GGG targeted, soon to be increased massively when D3 AH closes and the game swings to loot find.

GGG would be silly, as businessmen, to risk this model.

See, if there were a self-found league, a real hardcore-gaming league, paid or just another option, with adjustments to content gates, this takes the shine off of the pretend leagues. The people actually progressing through end game without trading (and grouping if SFS) would make HC, Std and 4 month shopping sims less likely to make Bobshopper feel awesome.

Bobshopper now feels inferior, no longer is buying your gear, being rushed, buying boss kills, flipping and 6 man overgeared facerolling doing what it is intended.

The result, GGG have the game they said they wanted to make, but they don't have the pretend hardcore market any more because these guys won't hang around to be 2nd class to true hardcore aRPGers.
Casually casual.

They may have made poor choices about Diablo III, idk I haven't played it, and I don't give a damn. But saying that they just "fuck people" is just plain stupid.

Same here, never played D3 (except for the demo), because the moment I read about "always on-line, global economy, auction house" I knew it meant shitty drops and unrewarding looting. And that trading would top everything.

I would never consider playing PoE either, if it wasnt F2P.

But if Blizz is willing to put loot finding back into the aRPG and have trading as a secondary, optional thing, not as primary focus (like in PoE), then the only thing that would put me off would be a ridiculous price tag (say 100EUR for the original + expansion, which is most likely to be the case, lol :P).

I'm not mad at Blizz, been their fan since The Lost Vikings, tho their last game I played was WC3 a decade ago.

We change only two words:

[..] "always on-line, global economy, trade chat" I knew it meant shitty drops and unrewarding looting. And that trading would top everything.

We get quite good description of... :D +1 :)

For months I say to my friends, that in this aspect, there is no difference between PoE and D3.

Anticipation slowly dissipates...
RoS beta on twitch now. good lord. Loot Pinata. Not endgame yet, though, so no certain conclusions can be drawn.

(Some ideas, like the rifts, are DEFINITELY taken from PoE, by the way :) )

I really think this whole problem would be solved if crafting was a suitable way to gear. I hate trading in this game, but I watch the trade channels here and there just in case.
You can easily craft blue items to fill the slots where you don't have good rares yet actually.
I've been using a blue belt ( regaled it ans the 3 mode sucked, I'll prolly try again considering belt's prices .... ) for a long time, I just really needed the two mods on it.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

Looking good, better the more I see.

"End game for everyone" Even if you want to earn it rather than just buy it. GGG devs missing this basic RPG concept is amazing.

With respect you should care. This is because :

i) GGG are repeating a number of the core loot features which D3 did;

ii) D3s player base crashed and burned a couple of months after release once those features became obvious to the majority of the player base.

I strongly suspect PoEs player base will significantly shrink in the near future due to this. And that is something I believe we all care about and would like to avoid.

I see one of two things happening :

1. GGG recognise this for the game threatening problem that it is now and act immediately to address it;

2. GGG ignore this issue, plow on on the present path and lose masses of players in the near future. Recognise and address the issue too late, change things months from now and try and attract players back by changing things around.

The MMO and ARPG market place is littered with the corpses of games that fell into category 2.

It's simple really. People want to feel heroic by getting drops that enable continued FUN instead of the present system which either forces them into playing a trade simulator in the trade channels/forums or prostitute themselves to RMT folk destroying both their enjoyment and the games economy.

PoE has been "opened" ( since it was a beta ) for a year.
Still doing fine atm.

Blizzard is aiming at a really large audience, much larger than GGG imho.

Here, people aimed do not just want to feel heoric. They want to feel rewards for what they do and not getting everything like it's child's play.
And trading is meant to be part of the game, and needed to progress.

This is where self-found play really falters. PoE is way too stingy with the gear, much like early D3 where the only way to get anything remotely decent was to trade. Without uber-rare uniques and without crafting, it's effectively impossible to get, say, a 1h weapon with more than 250 top end damage or a chest armor with more than 500 ES. The odds are just so low that the statistical chance of finding a truly great item would take years on average. This is why we really need a self-found league where special rules can bridge the gap and make it so trading isn't completely mandatory for anyone who wants to scratch the surface of this game.

God damn son.
Nailed it.

I think, fuck the economy, up the drops of all orbs so crafting from self found is an option.
