If life was back to CB levels...
" I dont believe this is the case. -For all characters not stacking high amounts of armor, the potential to be OHKd is much higher than with es. Even after taking all possible life nodes. -The number of passives required to reach high amounts of ES is considerably lower than the amount of passives needed to achieve some level of survivability with life. Kaoms is the only way for life builds to get the same level of survivability as ES. For the average player taking every single life node they can reach, 4k life is barely achievable and it requires high life rolls on every single piece of gear, basically anything less than 70 life on every piece of gear is too low. -Ability to use some of the most powerful unique items with zero drawbacks other than lost resistances possibly. Life builds cant use many uniques very effectively because so few of them have decent life rolls and there really is almost no room to sacrifice a life roll. Take a life based caster for instance. Rainbowstrides may help a lot with damage and some other things, but ultimately, it would not be a good choice to use them because you would be giving up and 80+ life roll to do so. Also, I really would hate to see them just start designing a bunch of uniques with life rolls in order to achieve balance. I dont like the idea of balancing with uniques. Even if ES got nerfed it would still have higher protection against one-shots, high armor kaoms builds being the only exception, It would still take the same number of passives to get all the ES nodes meaning still the same ability to take utility or damage nodes, and it would still be way more efficient at using unique items than life because of no reliance on life rolls. I think life needs to be brought up to the level of ES instead of getting nerfed to the same effectiveness of life. I dont mean in a purely numbers ratio sort of way. Im thinking of maybe making life even MORE resistant to status ailments. Think of it as a revers version of the armor system. It gets stronger based on higher life, someone with 4k life might almost never receive status ailments from even the biggest hits. This would really make that a choice one would have to make. Right now its so easy to just go immune to ailments for ES builds that it trivializes the one advantage life might have had. In order to bring evasion life builds up into that tier of effectiveness I think raw physical damage should be lowered slightly while giving the mobs a small bit more accuracy, just enough to almost always hit those not stacking evasion, and give them some sort of armor penetration. That way they still do the same damage to an armor character even though the raw damage taken by the eva character is slightly less than it was before. " Forgot to answer this. My personal preference is acutally what i was seeing back in CB which was 7:10 HP:ES without kaoms. However this is even a skewed ratio because that 10k es is below what you could actually get with godly gear. However, nostalgia bias. Game was more enjoyable in CB. |

" No one uses Blood Magic as a keystone anymore. The fact that you have to use LL and BM as support gems is only fair because mana based characters usually need to use LL and mana leech instead, Freezing Pulse is the best example (the only spell that is currently worth self casting if we are talking about spam) " Because I am caster and have been in every game I ever played. I wouldnt even play Life if I had a Kaoms on HC which I could buy if I wanted. I dont even know why I am replying to you since you obviously dont get the point. " Except it wasnt 7:10 in CB. Not even close. Remember my CI thread? Not including the witch es highway start, I managed to get 12.5k Es with 2 nodes lol. Just saying comparing to CB levels is pretty extreme. Personally, I do feel like the main issue is the fact that es has become far far too much like hp. When we were squabbling over which was better in CB. We could say status effects, puncture, regeneration, leech. Cant do this anymore. Hell, that craptastic auxium belt allows ES users a shorter chill and freeze duration than hp users. Its moronic. CI spell users need to have leech removed. Period. |

" Your goal is to remove any ES based build that doesnt revolve around totems, isnt it? Because thats exactly what a change like this would do. Last edited by nynyny#3398 on Aug 25, 2013, 10:35:44 AM

" No, its not. I hate totems and dont play them. Hell, I have a melee build right now doing just fine. Faster ES recovery for spell users is in dire need. You want to leech? Use hp. Shouldve wrote GR should ve melee only, but w/e. Edit: current mechanics are ass backwards. CI spells should not be able to leech instantly, or even ar a faster rate than hp users. The issue with ghost reaver is it has no downsides (aside from getting there) because of Vaal Pact. Ghost Reaver should permit leech to effect energy shield, but either greatly reduce or completely remove recharge.
Energy Shield Builds do not need leech, I play them, I do fine without it, but I do thirty times better with it :P |

" Remember this part of my post that you quoted? " I was Playing with people who had 10k ES, i didn't say 10k was the cap. Last edited by Xendran#1127 on Aug 25, 2013, 2:15:40 PM

" If you NEED leech to play an ES caster, you're doing it wrong. |

" I remember fighting a bit with sl4y3r when I suggested they should lower max es and up base es. The reason why was one of the players in CB had >20k ES in HC, I forgot the character name, but it was around the introduction of maps, S-something...short, I think Japanese name. Anyway, that player didn't even have top end gear in all slots, I even picked up low level (ilvl 63 or so, lvl 48 item, encrusted circlet IIRC?) headpiece with over 500 es which that player desperately wanted. I think the ratio of max achievable HP to ES at the time (without kaoms) was around 1:3.0-3.5 Edit: Many edits trying to estimate. Edit: Even more edits. I also remember talking to Victordoom about it and he mentioned something like a 25k ES build, I may be mistaken about this though since my memory is pretty vague, Victordoom if you happen to see this please correct me if I'm wrong. |
