pls add gold to buy items

"
There will always be a currency/trade problem in a gaming world because new items are being created at no cost all the time.

That could be fixed by putting a cap on each
currency item out there, but then again that
is a really back handed solution, no?
I will admit it is the most unique form of purchasing items ive seen so far.
it sucks not having usable gear because i am unlucky at finding things. then i go to town and see npcs with gear that is not at all amazing but leagues better then what im finding(specifically weapons)... what if there were some sort of credit system in place where you trade an npc an item(s) and they give you something like a store credit that is only good with that specific npc you can buy some of his wears if you want and if you don't its no real loss because you can just go gather a bunch of useless things that are going to die with the zone anyway and if you don't spend it before you leave the zone it will disappear

its not a perfect system but it seems better then whats in place now... i find myself vexed to use my id scrolls weather to actually ID items or buy items and im always at or near 0

So I go to a shop to buy a hammer and the price is 1 $10 bill 1 $5 bill 2 x $1 coins and 3 dimes.

I tell the shop keeper I only have a $50 and a $20. The shop keeper says we don't give change and we won't let you overpay, come back when you have the exact amount in the specified denominations.

I say where can I split a 20 then? He says this world has no banks so go stand on the street corner shouting at people till you find one who has the right change and can be bothered to swap with you, but, remember in this world no one thinks a $10 bill is worth 2 x $5 or 5 x $1 is worth a $5, no one really knows what any of them are worth.

So yes it is unique - uniquely dumb.

When vendor selling is in, that'll be a lot easier.

And are you seriously going to complain about some minor shop buying invconveniences when you buy things from shops like....I've bought maybe 3 things from shops.

Thirdly, once you've played for a bit currency item shortage is alleviated because you just have a lot more of them. I have plenty spare low orbs now (the ones the vendors want).

All the above makes no sense when youre talking about a game.

Using your example, you would end up having set amount of currency in the game, controlled by the "bank" (no idea how it would be distributed and any new player would start with 0 and would only get more from another player) and it would never ever "drop from monsters" - you don't go in the woods to hunt animals ("monsters") and they don't drop those 10$ bills in real life.

The system is not dumb, GGG are very clever, because they have a system that is simple enough for an ARPG and wouldn't suffer INSANE inflation unlike if gold was used. D2 had gold. Guess what - it was NEVER used for any serious trades. How about learning from mistakes of others when you have such chance?

Or can you come up with suggestions for gold sinks that would require nearly 100% of the gold dropped to be used and thus removed from the market. Do you want some totally insane repair prices? THAT would be dumb.

P.S. I don't really like the current system, mostly because people kill monsters to find orbs instead of killing them to find the shiny loot like it was in D2. 95% of my higher level gear upgrades come from using orbs instead of drops I find, which isn't that D2 feeling I'm looking for. So not even being a fandboy of the system, I can surely say that you don't see the whole picture here.

I'm starting to think everyone is missing the point...

We don't want a currency for trading with other player... We want a currency for buying items easier from vendors while lvling... the point of which is to have useable fallback gear instead of getting shafted because you don't get any nice loot for your class/build...

I never have ID scrolls... because SURPRISE I use them all to ID possible gear... I never have any of the misc orbs/ect. because SURPRISE... I use them to make the garbage I do find semi usable... I as a low level leveling player have absolutely no fallback... that's what makes this current system so frustrating...

Yes at higher lvls you will have an abundance of the items required to vendor... but at that point your hunting for rares and the vendors items probably don't hold a candle to the equip you use...
who traded items in D2/TQ for gold? I never did, I doubt most people did, you trade items for items. Gold is a redundant system used to give people an inflated sense of accomplishment, or to satisfy some boring game mechanic like fixing broken items... that's all.
