Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

I have already made a post on how to solve it.

Penalize it.

My post before was showing the relevancy that GGG will lose money from people quitting for LOTS of different reasons. Not just this one. Such is the fact of making, well, anything.

You can't please everyone, and if you try, you might just end up with something no one wants.

I blah blah.

Blah blah blah.

Need to reach with a slippery slope argument.

See. GGG just lost money on that one niche issue, they should now ignore the largest single concern raised by the largest chunk of player because all issues are equal.....

(This has actually already happened too btw, that means it's important as everything that happens ever is important)

I like your style and agree.

Great idea! Penalize players for basic gameplay choices!
Clearly that wont backfire!
-.-

You CAN please GREENS *and* REDS, by adding Infinity loot timer/Instanced SC&HC leagues without penalazing players for that choice.

While i agree its a slippery slope, one has to consider the biggest factors that the current demographic group of casuals are used to.
People are used to rare drops and farming, what they arent used to is people stealing *Their loot*.
Now if you take into consideration alot of players probably come from D3, and many of those also come from WoW probably.
They are used to grinding and rare drops, BUT also used to instanced drops/Rolling for items.

To put it simply: If they dont get an option to play the game without FFA loot, they will solo it.
And if they solo it they will get bored.
If they get bored they quit.
But you are penalizing players.

You're dividing up the playerbase. By a large one too. (going from 2 default leagues -> 4).

Again, quit talking about greens and reds. State what you actually mean. Instanced vs. FFA.

Also, this game is based upon the fact of penalizing players for gameplay choices.

1) Make a bad build? Well, there's no full respec.

2) Sell items without meaning to? No buyback option.

3) Wish to be a glass cannon in SC? Ok, but if you die and try to zerg, you'll lose 15% exp in the highest difficulty.

There are already TONS of ways players are penalized for gameplay choices.

A majority of the D3 players played D2. Your point is moot.

I don't think someone who prefers HC will resign themselves to Default and stay there, integrating.

That's how hardcore and default are connected. How would instanced be connected to default as to not split the player base?

As was argued earlier, and I still feel would split the player base too much, is having options on making instanced loot in default. That is the only plausible, but I still feel wrong, option to go with. Which they would be better off just scraping the style of game they wanted and re tooling it.

A majority of D2 players moved on to D3. What is the point?

Seriously? I would bet money most of those players played D2 longer then D3. Your last point was that they are most likely more used to instanced, which is wrong.

Or, they will learn to like it. Just because you have always had Instanced, does not mean that you cannot learn to enjoy a new way of looting/playing.

And that wasn't a slippery slope. If it was, I would've been saying if GGG "caves" on this one, than what's next (IIRC).

I was merely providing another example to show that people will leave for various reasons if (insert game issue) isn't "fixed".
