Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

Personally the way loot is currently in the game is a big turn off for me. If loot isn't automatically divided I simply will NOT team with people I am not on vent with or skyping with that I know IRL. Otherwise I'll be playing solo.

I am not opposed to a hardcore league involving loot rules though, that seems fair to me.
I think, a simple word filter is enough.
(working like the "white filter" in the option UI)

Any word you type, will be filter and shown only that item(s) that match the word.
But it should be just 1 filter. No " + " for multiple filter. And similarly, it can be turned off.

This would fulfill the requirements for both side.
And also help filtering out the insane clusters of item drops that fill your screen.

Else, i think the loot system can be left as it is. OR implement it only for private league (or whatever league GGG choose).

to GGG - pls make the decission already, it going on for too long. If you want to experiment it, do it before OBT.

I posted longer thoughts on the announcement thread for the 0.9.10 patch, but I strongly disagree with the idea of having such a short timer to force players in groups to stop fighting and loot mid-battle or miss valuable drops because they had a lagspike or took more than a split second to notice the item. That doesn't sound appealing at all to me for a cooperative group mode, and I will still play mostly solo due to the poor group loot system. Simply adjusting that timer to be substantially longer would make me substantially more comfortable with the future of the game as a whole. The lackluster support for grouping is pretty much the only thing I like less about POE than "that other game," and I really want to see them get this part right so I can lure my gaming friends over to a superior ARPG. That's not gonna happen if GGG still has this fool idea in their heads that I want to have a cutthroat atmosphere with the people I choose to quest cooperatively with.

I would much rather have player-friendly grouping mechanics in general, with frequent Cutthroat league events for when I want the line between friend and foe to be blurry. It's not a satisfying cutthroat experience that my groupmate can ninja my loot if I don't selfishly dart in every few seconds to stop fighting and pick up items, unless I can kill the bastard and take my stuff back.

Couldnt have said it better.
Hmm...reading about the devs wanting a cutthroat action for looting really doesn't make me feel like a happy camper. I truly feel this will make players less willing to party up. My main character is a ranger and I just don't see me running with any strangers any time soon. And none of my friends play this game.

I think the best thing to do is allow all options to be selected via party leader. So those who want cutthroat FFA can turn it on and those who don't can do something else.

More choices for your customers is never a bad thing.
One second? Who presses alt every half second, they may as well add an option to just toggle item display permanently.

It should be at least 3 seconds or so, with the portion based on travel time being travel time if you're not going strait for the spot (as in, enough to account for things like going around a wall or dodging mobs).

There is already an option to toggle item display permanently. I have always had it on. I cant remember the hotkey, but you can check the ingame options.
How it works currently is fine, when you party with somebody and if something drops that matches the other persons class/build let them take the item. It is all about respect and common courtesy.

Something a surprising amount of people lack when playing over the net with people they don't know.
Some people tend to treat others over the internet on the same level as NPCs. Or even worse. It's sad but nonetheless true.
You guys are the rare ones I see. Online games would be incomparably better with more people like this.

Players "less willing to party up" at best. This could ultimately lead to GGG creating a new genre - Massievely Singleplayer Online - MSO if you would.

For the Greater Good's sake, at least make it league dependant feature, hardcore league having ffa, default having shared/individual loot or something. Anything.

Competing with friends over an item when we want to play together is not my idea of "fun" and I think a few others here will agree with me on it. GGG You are creating a multiplayer game. By my logic, support for group-based gameplay is a must here then, or that MSO thing won't be just a bad joke anymore.
