This game is my "Path of Exile" out of D3.
Until D3, I was a kind of Fan-Boy of Blizzard - D1 was the first game I was addicted to for a really long time. I also loved D2 alot and enjoyed every other game the made, it was always a special quality in my eyes. Accordant huge were my expectations regarding D3. I don´t think that D3 is a bad game - it looks good and has a nice flow to play in the beginning. But I was already cheesed off in the beginning because of the enforcement to play online combined with the down-times they had. After playing hundreds of hours I felt bad with it; I was still addicted to it, but there was always frustration in it. It always feels like they created the whole game around the AH, that making money out of it had far more priority than giving players a nice experience. It is a pity, but this seems to be the way companies go when they grow and shareholder values get more demanding. A friend told me about PoE and here I am enjoying this, even if graphics are not that good, maps sometimes look too much as a modular system and the story is short because of the missing act 3. This looks like it is made from gamers for gamers and because of the Node-Sytem there is always an idea to try something new. Thanks GGG for getting me out of D3 ! :) |

Hi everyone! Game looks fantastic, and I have 50% of the beta downloaded. The amount of customization in this game seriously blows my mind and I cannot wait to dive in and tinker with all of these skills!
I won't say I hate Diablo 3. I feel like it is a good game and has MASSIVE potential, but it needs some time to mature. I try to keep in mind that it took Diablo 2 quite a bit of time to grow into what it is today. Diablo 2 at launch suffered from most of the problems Diablo 3 is suffering from now, and I cannot fathom why they went backwards and got rid of everything that made the game fun. Fixes are on the way, and I feel that with time the game could mature into the game I, and many others, expected it to be. Regardless, I feel like this game will hold my attention for a veryyyyyy long time. I look forward to seeing you all in game! |

Haha, you got me. I just got bored with it after a while, I have no hate for it, but I won't be back until there's a reason to go back. I think there probably will be, give it time.
I'm not super far into PoE, I just beat act 1, I only have 1 character, a level 20 sword/shield Ranger, so I'm far from knowledgeable. However the only reason I am not playing a lot more is I know everything I accomplish will be wiped; I'm not complaining since a beta is just a sneak peek for supporters and some bug testing, not quite the actual game. I am positively chomping at the bit however for open beta to start so I can make a "real" character that won't be deleted. I admit PoE started off pretty slow. I will admit Diablo 3 for all its problems got me "hooked" in by level 6 or 7. The first 8 or 9 levels of PoE by contrast were kind of "meh", but I noticed something. The game was actually kind of hard. It wasn't stupid hard, like the kind that comes from bad design choices or constant streams of broken affix combinations, it was purposefully challenging. I wasn't going to just steamroller over this one. Then somewhere in there something clicked. I realized I could combo my skills in order strategically to greater effect. D3 has this but only to a certain point; PoE thrives on it. The first support gem I got made a light go off in my head that this was the skill system D3 was trying to use, but this was the idea brought to the next level. Then I got Leap Slam, Viper Strike and Fire Trap, picked up some more armor pieces, and eventually realized I was making something that worked for me. It's not quite "there" yet but a playstyle is emerging. I also began to realize something else, my wealth was slowly growing even though I often don't find any drops that are upgrades. It's not that I have a bunch of cool items but I have a bunch of Orbs and Whetstones and jewelry that gives me + to certain stats so I could switch out a skill gem or something if I had to. I began to realize that my passive skill points, which didn't seem to matter at first, as they pile up, actually start to matter. Working my way to those keystone nodes that give bigger bonuses seemed important all of a sudden. I realized that I was always close to accomplishing something. If my level wasn't close to the next level, a gem or three was almost leveled up. Even when nothing is close, I seem to find something interesting at that moment. Now realize a character like this isn't my normal style, sword and board melees are usually just an "alt" for me because they're reliable but boring. I normally play archers or something like that. I made something I knew I wouldn't "main" because when it gets wiped I won't QQ. But this is becoming an interesting character with its own nuances, and truth is there probably isn't another level 20 ranger exactly like it. Many are very similar and/or much better I'm sure, but exactly, I doubt it. This is brilliant, if this continues, it means that PoE gets ARPG gameplay very, very right. I feel like every correct action is rewarded. I get pissed off when I die, but still want to go try again. It's hard to stop playing. I think we have a winner here. I just wish they'd push it to the next level soon so I can play with RL friends. |

Left D3 for PoE, no question. I got to play on a free weekend back in March (?) and loved it. Played D3 because I had already paid for it.
This game was/is/will be better. ~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums.

Me the same. I play Diablo since 1997 Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 was great but Diablo 3 is poor (no wonder if Diablo 3 was designed by ppl who didnt make 1 and 2).
I played PoE in open weekend beta and loved it. Now i buyed beta and play well. GGG you make wonderful game! IGN: DarkMorgana PinkMorgana
